I think it would be useful for you to provide us with a lot more info before any of us tries to answer your question.

First we need all the relevant specs for the trailer: GVWR, Dry Weight, Load Capacity, Tongue Weight, etc.

Second, we'll need all the numbers for your specific TV (Tow Vehicle): 2X4 or 4X4, Curb Weight, GAWR, GVWR, CGWR, Front Axle Max Load, Rear Axle Max Load, Max Payload for the entire truck, all the data off the receiver hitch label, and the total weight of the passengers you will be carrying including the driver and any pets.

Edited to add: One other thing that will be very helpful is the load rating of the tires on the Explorer.

If you've read over any of the other towing inquiries here, you should understand why all of these numbers are needed before anyone can properly answer your question.

I believe your answers lies in the Hitch Label weight of 7300lbs of trailer. Thats a big load for a mid size SUV of any make.

According to the Keystone website this trailer has an empty weight of 5950 and GW of 7725. EMPTY tongue weight 725 (add battery and propane and your over 800 easily) Throw in a couple of passengers and some gear and I think you will be over all of the specs for your TV. It may be a great price but I personally would not take the chance. Another thing to consider is that the specs are for a new vehicle with new tires and driveline. JM2˘, Hank

If you take the GCWR of the TV at 12,000# and subtract the GVWR of the TV at 6,110#, you come up with 5,890# available for real towing capacity.

The empty weight of the trailer is 5,950# which is already over the capacity of the TV. That is before you add stuff like food, clothing, etc.

Bottom line is your TV should be towing a TT of no more than 5,500# GVWR.

And that matches up with my general rule of thumb for the various size tow vehicles available. I would have shot from the hip on the first post and said that the Explorer should tow no more than a 5,500# TT, but you needed to look up the numbers and understand the math for yourself.
