My China Bombs Lasted

The Towmaster tires that came on my 19 foot Bullet Premier held up for 11,898 miles. A fellow RVer said they went about 5K more than they should have, I don't know, but I was 14 miles outside of Elk City Oklahoma on the way home from the Grand Canyon when the rear door side tire went.

I was only going about 55 (I tried to keep my speeds at 60 and below) on I-40 east when it happened, and could only get replacement tires known as "Gladiators" (manufactured under the Goodyear tire and rubber I think) anyway, you ain't got much choice when you're out of town sometimes on what you can get.

Anyone use this brand tire? If so how's the reliability so far.

A friend tells me all trailer tires are made over seas, and that the betters brands are spot checked to keep quality in check at the factories, don't know how true that really is but it sounds impressive

Anyway, the new tires got me back to Va Bch, Va. without a hitch, only had to replace the strap that holds the plastic tire skirt in place as it snapped that in half and broke the bottom of the plastic where the screw screws into the strapping. Easy enough fix

Towmaster AKA "Blow"masters

Gladiators= called that because they will die a horrible death

LOL!

Ok enough fun, The Maxxis brand (M8008) ST tire is the only one I trust for good reasons. That is they have not failed me. There are reports that the new Carlisle Trail RH has been doing well but for me the jury is still out on that.

How much does your trailer weigh and what is the rating of the OEM tires? I think how close to "rated" load they are plays a big factor..

Trailer weighs around 4200 empty, and I doubt there's 500 pounds of weight in it. Someone else mentioned also that the total trailer weight may play a big factor in tire life. Tires are ST205/75R14C and Keystone says the load carrying capacity of the trailer is 2254, course it would take a lot to add that much weight to a 19 foot trailer. The same tire that year is used all the way up to the Premier 32BHPR weighing in at 6180 pounds

Two axles, 2254 x 4 = 9016 lbs carrying capacity.
You're at 4700 lbs, minus your pin weight.. That's a huge margin on your tires... Glad to hear yours have worked out for 12k and hope there wasn't too much damage. Personally, when I see loads start to approach 80% and over on OEM tires, I switch at mile 0.

I think the trailer has the 2254 capacity. The tires should be 1764 lbs each. That's a total of 7056 lbs, which is a good reserve capacity.
