Michelin Rib 235/85/16

I have a 2012 Copper Canyon 314FWRLS and after 2 blow outs with Tow Max tires I am looking for options. Tires religiously checked for proper pressure . I checked and my wheels are rated at 3580 but no psi is stamped.

Now I have 235/80/16 tires now. The Michellins are 235/85/16.
They look a lot bigger. Has anyone put these tires on this model?
Also I need to pull the trigger on tires by the end of the week. So if you tire experts can help me that be awesome.

Or what are my other options.
Thanks in advance.

What weight are you carrying on the axles?
If the Maxxis M8008 has enough capacity, you can get that in 235 80 16. 3420# @ 80 PSI.
http://www.maxxis.com/trailer/traile...nflation-chart

If you want to step it up maybe a Sailun S637. It is available in 235 80 16 as well. It's G rated, 14 ply, but a post on this board says it can be run at less than sidewall printed pressure or as your load requires.
That may be a 90PSI wheel. Do some research. Cross that wheel load rating to a tire with that 3580 capacity and what tire psi is required for that capacity.
Or call the wheel manufacturer.
Carlisle has a F rating I think.
If you're looking at the Michelin Rib tire, check the load rating.

What I have now are E Rated and 10 ply. The wheels are 8 lug. Is G a better tire?
I am looking at the Sailun S637. Are people having good luck with them?

There's a bunch of threads here on trailer tires. Basically the tires Keystone puts on the heavier trailers like yours and mine are "right on the edge" in some people's opinion since there is very little wiggle room between the maximum load rating (that's what the letters are by the way) of an E rated tire and your GVWR. Most of the time the axles are slightly overrated (but they have other possible upgrades like wet bolt kits for the suspension).

To summarize some other very long threads and info here also, most trailer "ST" tires are made pretty cheaply in China, especially the brands the trailer manufacturers use. They often don't last more than a season or two.

There's tons of detail in other threads here but the general consensus for the heavy trailers is if you have wheels that are rated for the higher air pressure of a higher load rated tire, you'll probably be a bit more satisfied and broke down on the side of the road a little less often if you can up the load rating a bit. Many people have some "go to" tires an brands that they like that give good service. You've gotten a few of them.

We decided to do something "in between" the best options (expensive but great) and worst (the brands Keystone typically uses) and went with Carlisle tires in an F load rating from Discount Tire. I'm a fan of them and their customer service is part of the reason why and we travel in areas where they're around in case of a replacement tire need.

Also be cautious and have a good place look and make sure the tires will fit. Usually the higher load rating ties are a little bigger around. On a dual axle setup this means they're a little closer to each other and less clearance to the wheel well, which works fine on our rig. You'll have to double check. Shouldn't be a problem.

We run the Sailun S637 on our Raptor. We have the 85's VS the 80's because that is what was in stock. We have had not one minutes problem with them in about 4000 miles so far.

I did some research on the wheels. They are rated at 3580 lbs at 94 psi.
Can I still run the Sailun tires?

What psi are you running them at and also what is the max psi of your wheel?

Here is a recent thread about tires and pressures. Note the email from the Sailun rep about running less than max rated air pressure on the tires.

We also run the Sailun 637 85s on our Montana with around 5000 miles on them so far. Note the sidewall of the tire specifically says "for trailer use only" and it is designated as an "LT" just ahead of the size designation. They are 14 ply tires and more than twice as heavy as the original GY marathons.

Is the 235/85/16 a LT tire? what is best ST or LT the size between the 80,85 is very close to each other. The width is the same so the wheel would be the same right?

Sailun makes both an LT any position tire in that size and an ST tire in that size. Both a great for trailer use.

The 235/85/16 ribs are and Lt tire. My rim width is 6 inches.

My concern is that my wheels are only rated at 94 psi max and the Sailun tires are rated at 110.

I would say most likely yes. That is assuming the sailun is rated to carry your load at that psi.

What are the Goodyears rated at?

The Sailun's max weight capacity is at 110psi. Somewhere around here there is a load chart for the tire, but they absolutely can be run at 90-95psi, assuming you're in that load range... (you might want high pressure valve stems)

In reply to your question, our rims are rated for 110psi and we run the tires at 100 psi. They run cool, smooth, and I can see a smile on their face......I'm lying about the smile.

Well I pulled the trigger on the Sailuns. Shipped for 750.00. I could not wait anY longer. I will install valve stems and run them at 100.00 psi to start.
