We camped at the KOA at " the whitehorse " aka KOA Winnipeg last June. I personally will never go back. Way too noisy for us. It is directly beside the Trans Canada Highway. Very Very busy stretch of road and 24/7 traffic. I would search other local private spots a bit more off the beaten path.

Caveat..........I would go back there to accommodate our grandson and why we ended up there to start with. I will go there for no other reason

Desert185, thanks for the info. I've been reading on the do's and fonts before we travel to Canada and it broke my heart last night when I removed all of our liquor bottles to meet Canadian customs. Looks like 24 cans or one bottle...

A bit late for me know and the good folks on this forum did provide other recommendations. The only issue was their reservations didn't open for some time after I made them at the KOA with the intention of going back later on. But forgot... As far as the noise level goes, well I hope to be part of it! We will be there to cheer the women's national team and hope to meet folks from all over!

Don't forget the rabies vaccination certificate if you have a dog with you. Also, the state you return to may require a more formal vet issued health certificate no more than 30 days old.

BTW, I take a long gun on the way to AK, but absolutely no handguns in Canada.

Also, don't forget that visitors to Canada must declare in writing all firearms. There is, of course, a special form for this (Form CAFC 909) as well as a $25 fee. Long guns are permitted but they must be declared and you need a valid reason for bringing them in -- hunting or similar. Personal protection isn't seen as being acceptable.

As mentioned, leave your handguns behind.

As a former Manitoban I must say this:

GO JETS GO!

(FYI to all my American friends this is Winnipegs/Manitobas NHL Hockey team that moved to Arizona in 1993 and subsequently returned about 4 years ago. The best hockey fans reside in Winnipeg - yes, you heard that right leafs fans)

PS: As far as travel in Manitoba goes: If you are really into fishing, and want to go for an extended stay - travel about 8 hours north to The Pas and Flin Flon. There is a provincial campground called Bakers Narrows that is a top notch facility, and you simply cannot beat the fishing!!

Well I can see after this trip to Winnipeg is over we may have to plan another trip for the extracurricular activities. However this trip is specific, taking my soccer playing daughter to watch the World Cup! I can't wait...

The old Jets became the Phoenix (now Arizona) Coyotes. The Atlanta Thrashers are the team that moved to Winnipeg and are now the Jets.

Other than that, I agree with everything you said. Just wish they could have won one playoff game.

If you have a few hours, go to Grand Beach. Beautiful sand there.

So, is Grand Beach, a known location by the "local" to give me directions?

Yup. Pretty sure there are signs all the way, but a very popular place and well known.

I used to camp there when I was about 10 yrs old, and only been back once as an adult, but it is gorgeous.

Google shows it as about an hour and fifteen minuts from Winnipeg.

It is probably a 2 hour ride from the KOA to Grand Beach. From the KOA head east to the city.

There is a North and South bypass. Take the North route.

It will take you probably a 1/2 hour or so to take the North bypass around to the east side of the city. You will want to pick up Hwy 59 and go North. It is signed well as you head North towards Grand Beach.

Have Fun Enjoy the Tourny !!! And Welcome to Manitoba !!

We are very excited to start our trip. First one of the season, fingers crossed all goes well. We may even push our departure time up to tonight just to make Tomorrows drive a little easier on us. Have to check in and be at the first game Friday afternoon!

Well, as luck or unluck would have it. The night before we were due to leave I was driving on the gravel road and a passing truck threw a rock and shattered my windshield. Luckily I know a glass repairman and first thing the next morning he had it replaced.

And then... Today... The damn China bombs got me as you can see by the photos. I knew better and I even posted that I was buying new tires... But I didn't. And before the haters start hating on me my tires were properly inflated for the temperature and weight and I was checking them every 2-3 hours until. Bam!

Hopefully we will make it across the border without any further excitement.

shov,

Sorry for your misfortune, but as slow just said, things can only improve from here. It looks like most of the damage is to the lower skirting. If that's the case, then keep your chin up and enjoy the trip. After all, seeing the smile on your daughter's face as she watches the games in Winnipeg will "soothe the pain".....

Don't look back, keep enjoying your trip !!!!!

Believe it or not, once I got the spare on and me off of the side of the highway I was actually in a pretty good mood. I was able to have a farm and ranch store repair the propane supply line to the fridge relatively quick. All is good and everything is repairable!

Choices were limited for tires in the Minot/Grand Forks area. But I purchased a set of 14 ply Vanguards. And I immediately noticed the difference in the construction of the tire and the tow ability of them as well.
