We lived at 8300 ft in Colorado for four years way back in the early 70's... I can tell you that both of us really enjoyed having 4 distinct seasons.

Here in Central Texas we can have four seasons in the same week if you exclude the color of the leaves.

I've seen the signs when rolling through...I'd be paying for it, I have trouble with a 20 oz steak. I have heard it's a good place to eat. Good to know there isn't any highway noise there. That is my biggest complaint with KOAs, other than charging extra for each kid. I thought camping was supposed to be a family thing!

Javi I'd give Martin Dies State Park a 8.5 score. We are in the section south of Hwy190. There is huge room between sites. We are in#86 and there must be 60 ft feet between most sites. Great sunsets over the lake. Lots of trees and shrubs. Walking trails.
Drawbacks.....no sewer. A bit of highway noise. We must be half a mile from the road, but the sound travels good over open water.
Perfect weather!
We will be back.

Sigh...I think I'm jealous. Tucked the camper away last weekend, hooked up snowblower to tractor a few days ago, put reflective delineator posts up along our driveway yesterday, and they're predicting 10"-12" of snow Monday. Yuck! I want more camping...

Sounds good, we'll put it on the itinerary for this spring.

We did a bit more scouting since my post. The south section looks better to us than the north. Any of the #80-100 sites are good. I would disregard the pull thrus.
If you fish, bring some gear. I wouldn't expect any trophy, but that water by the #86 site is begging for a topwater. I did hear some distant duck hunters shotguns for a couple hours after dawn. Wife slept through it, as did most others I expect. Lots of diversity in plant life. Big pines, hickory, oaks, etc.
The Pickett House in Woodville has decent fried chicken and country vegetables. I got the 5th in and out of their lot somehow.

The Big Thicket National Preserve visitor center on HWY 287 south of Woodville is a place to visit, if you're already right there.

Looks great, we'll defiantly head over there this spring and bring the fishing gear.

Well, I winterized. Drained the water. Picked the green tomatoes and all the jalapenos. Blocked and drained the sprinkler system. Weatherman predicted 29 degrees. It got down all the way to 37.
Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to get on the road again.
Temps back into the 70's late next week, might go fishing.
edit...mowed and edged today. It WAS kinda cool!
