What screws to use on aluminum frame

So ther are many mods that add shelves, brackets, etc to the pass through storage area of a travel trailer, but what kind of screws do you use? Metal screws, self taping, maybe I need to predrill a hole first? Any thoughts?

I use self tapping and do not drill first. Once self tapping screw bites, do not over torque or threads will strip.
I suppose sheet metal screw will also work with undersized pilot hole.

I used aluminum pop rivets to install some brackets, mostly because I already had them. Otherwise, I would have used some sharp pointed sheet metal screws similar to those used by Keystone.

I would say it all depends on the load that its carrying. If I have direct access to the studs like a pass through storage, I would use bolts for more heavier things. I tend to stay away from the self tapper screws because the "tapper" part of the screw is usually almost as wide as the threads themselves thus making it not very strong. It easily strips out. With thicker aluminum, I tap a hole the size of the screw core diameter and use a fine tipped sheet metal screw. Bites hard and difficult to strip. I used a combination of this and rivets when I put up aluminum sheets inside my old pop-up camper that held up the canvas tracks.
