2 1/2" Hitch Reducer

Just bought a 2011 Silverado 2500HD and it came with a 2 1/2" receiver hitch with a reducer to use 2" hitches.

The problem is the holes line up so closely with my Equal-i-zer hitch it is nearly impossible to get the pin through all 3.

Is there any reason that I shouldn't enlarge the holes on the reducer? As far as I can tell it's only function is to act as a spacer.

Thanks.

I have the same hitch, it would not hurt to inlarge the holes in the spacer but do not change the size holes in the 2.5" tube.

Thanks, That is exactly how I feel. Buying all new ball mounts is not appealing!
