Seems I remember reading somewhere that the Cougar XLite is NOT braced for a rooftop ladder. You might want to do a forum search to find threads concerning installation of ladders on fifth wheels.

The problem that I have with the permanently attached ladders is getting on and off at the top. I am a pretty big guy, and feel really awkward trying to get onto the roof from the ladder, or onto the ladder from the roof.

I got a telescoping ladder that extends up beyond the edge of the roof so I can just step off the ladder onto the roof while holding onto the top of the ladder. Other advantages are that the ladder can be placed at a more convenient angle for climbing, it can be moved around the trailer as necessary to reach other things, and the DW can hold the bottom for me.

It folds up neatly, and stores under the bed or in the back of the van.

The downside of not having a permanent ladder, is those things are a good place to store things like bikes or blue sewer totes.

I asked my salesman about putting a ladder on our Cougar XLite 28SGS 5er. He said they would call Keystone and ask. Never heard back.
All I've read on here, I wouldn't do it. You can bet if they could, Keystone would install it and jump at the chance to charge for it as an option.

I bought the same ladder for my Laredo. I have only used it once so far to clean all the berry 's off the roof when I got home from south jersey in august. The ladder worked great. Just make sure you have someone holding the ladder for you so it does not slide while you are on it. Worth the 100.00 I paid for it on e-bay.
