Weight Distribution in RLS TTs

I am putting together a couple of threads in my mind. We are new owners of a Hornet 27 RLS and are tying to make sure we have everything we need before the first venture out on the road. One thread suggest that nothing heavy be placed in/on the slide while it is not extended. My thoughts were to put the tools under the aft dinette seat... thus putting *some* weight behind the wheels. The only appreciable storage on a RLS seems to be from the tongue back about 8 feet, so virtually anything you add has a very direct effect on the hitch weight.... which at this time, with full LP tanks and minimal waste water and no appreciable *stuff* is 820#.

I can have up to a 1000# hitch weight, which (figuring a 12% hitch weight) would put me at 8300#. That would suggest hauling about 2000# of junk, which I think is a little over the top.
So.... I'm shooting for about 7200 or less which would be a tongue weight of 864#. Only about 40# more than I am carrying, now... fairly empty.

So..... anybody have any tips on how to load the trailer safely to maintain about a 12% tongue weight?

I have an 06 Hornet 29RLS which is a similar design. I have never paid any attention to what is in the slide when closed. I have never stored anything very heavy like tools either. Why not just put them in the truck and keep the weight out of the slide and tongue. My trailer is heavier than yours and has a hitch weight over 1000 lbs. Most people add 1000-1500 lbs of weight to a trailer and you are correct that most of the weight added affects tongue weight significantly with the rear living room layout.

When the slide is in for traveling, there is about 2 inches of space without any support under the slide. Adding weight to this area will make the floor sag or pull away from the side walls.

Did you have any fresh water in the tank? Ours is a toyhauler, but we use the fresh water amount to get the tongue weight where we like it at 13%.
