Is the furnace really flexible?

When we bought our rig we were told by the dealer that both the furnace and the hot water heater can run on either propane or electric. We have figured out how to run the hot water heater on electric. Have had trouble with the furnace switching over. We called Keystone and they said definately yes that the furnace can run on either. The fella I spoke with could not tell us how it switches over. When I called the &#%@ dealer they told me nope it only runs on propane. When I asked why were we told otherwise by our sales people they said "Oh you must have misunderstood!" I said I don't think so! Does anyone have dealers who lie to make a sale or better yet a furnace that really does run on both.

I don't know of any combo units... there are some conversion units but most void any OEM warranty if used..

There is one way to know what you have. Get the model number from the furnace itself or from the build sheet. Then go to the manufacturer's website and look it up.

Also, there should be a separate 110 vac circuit breaker for the furnace if it can run on ac current instead of propane.

His definitely yes is definitely wrong. It is not very common to see a combo electric/propane furnace and such installations are certainly not the normal state of affairs on Keystone models, if there are any at all.

Not to defend either the Dealer or Keystone, but I think it's a play on words, as in yes the Furnace will run on propane without hookups, or yes it will still run on propane with the converter suppling the 12V needed for the fan and blower when connected to shore power. You have to get into some higher end MHs and 5ers before you get electric heat and most of them is via Heat Pumps, but still use a propane furnace if really cold. Now we have an electric Fire Place that provides supplmental heat when it's cool, but not cold enough to need the furnace and it only works when connected to shore power.

The water heater runs on either, the furnace on propane only but it uses 12V for the igniter and control.

I've been wrong before and will be again but I haven't heard of a gas/electric furnace in our rigs.

If you have a heat pump the digital thermostat will say HP in one of it's settings or on AUTO it will work until it gets too cold outside then it switches furnace automatically. I only turned the furnace on so far to make sure it works the heat pump has kept us warm so far

Talking

Do dealers lie? That's a good one!! Ever bought a used car? Just joking - but if you ever find a "dealer" who doesn't lie - I'd question why he's still in sales!! I guess one has to pay particular attention to what they're telling you - take notes if necessary.......the old "you must have misunderstood" is like calling you a dummy.......but I believe the answers you got here are all correct.
