Cover Melted Black AC shroud
I bought an Amazon Basics RV cover to keep the sun off of my new 220BHWE. After a moderate early summer day I pulled it off to see the AC Shroud had melted slightly and pushed the foam into the fan inside the unit.
I have seen others with black roof accessories experience melting when using a cover so I am unlikely to use the cover again. Im considering getting a white replacement shroud.
I know the debate on weather to cover or not is a long one but Im curious if anyone has melting stories and perhaps solutions or suggestions.

I could more easily understand a "melting plastic" issue if you were in the desert, but you're located north of San Francisco in a more "moderate" climate... This is the first I've heard of covers and melted roof components, so I'm not sure what the next step may be. I do agree, a white shroud would likely eliminate at least some of the super-hot temps around the A/C.
You might want to do some research with the Amazon Basics brand and see if there might be other buyers with the same experience. While I doubt the fabric is the culprit, you never know.....

Looking at the cover you describe it appears to have a white top. Does yours?
I've not heard of a cover causing melted plastic either. All my roof covers are black; both ACs, MaxxAir vent covers etc. and I've not had any issues. They do get hotter than white ones but they don't melt and I can't imagine a cover melting them even in W TX.
I am assuming it is literally "melted" and not deformed somehow by the cover? You might reach out to the manufacturer of the AC and see if they could be of any assistance. In my experience I've never heard of an AC shroud just melting from sun exposure, or a cover.

John: it has been unseasonably warm this year. 101 in Livermore as I write this. Supposed to hit 105 in another hour and a half.

The high today was 67F and right now it's 59F on the back deck. We haven't run the A/C in the past week or so and it's actually comfortable to go outside and work in the yard. Now, if I could just get rid of these darned mosquitos...

Warped is the best description. But yes it’s heat related from the cover. I had the trailer out all last year without a cover without issue. It looks like it took the shape of the foam inside. There is one other reviewer of the cover who had much more severe melting than I had.

Seth,
If your trailer is "new" then the warranty on the A/C is 1 year for all parts and labor, 2 years for parts, 3 years on the refrigeration system. You might be able to get the shroud replaced under warranty. It should not have deformed from heat unless your RV was involved in a fire. I'd urge you to let the dealer know about your problem.... Don't look for any help from Keystone, they only "arbitrate the warranty on components" and are essentially out of the picture on this one.
