I always thought my F250 towed OK, till I bought a dually. A couple weeks ago we did a weekend trip with friends. On the way home I subconsciously noticed the crosswinds were pretty strong but didn't really pay much attention. The next day at work my friend commented on the winds and how he was getting pushed around. It was then I remembered he was right and realized what a difference the dually really makes. That said it is a huge truck. It's not my daily driver, if it were I would say I enjoyed my F250 CC short bed much more when not towing. I park farther out wit the dually, some maneuvers require one more back up, all in all its manageable. But it's primarily a tow vehicle and I have no regrets. My fiver is 38' and just under 12k. I dont have to have a dually but it sure is nice. Bigger is always better when towing.

larry...just curious how is your fuel mileage compared to your 250?
Mine is my daily driver so yes mileage to me is a concern, currently I get 17mpg empty, I would be ok if I could get 15/16 from a dually.

My F250 was 6.4 with 3.55 rear end. My drive to work is 22 miles 1 way, 18 of which are highway. My annual mileage including errands and trips is 20,000. My 6.4 averaged 15-16 all around not including towing. Towing it was too embarrassing to even mention lol. That was calculating by hand and comparing to the lie o meter. The lie o meter was fairly accurate, probably a half mpg high. My 6.7 with a 3.73 is almost exactly the same. But towing is way better than the 6.4. I bought the 6.4 new in 2010 and used it as a daily driver. Diesel fuel, $100 oil changes, brakes and tires etc were killing me. I made the decision to park it and bought a brand new Focus for a daily driver. I financed it for 6 years at 275 month. It's basically a free car with what I save in fuel and maintenance. Brakes, tires and oil changes are way cheaper. Now granted you have to put aside your manly ego to drive a Focus everyday lol. But in the long run I'm not wearing out a 60k dollar truck as fast, which makes its resale value much higher, and when the Focus is paid off it was basically paid for with money I would have spent anyway. I keep my hot rod diesel in the pole barn and baby it. I dont have a Harley or sports car so I justify it that way. I paid off the 6.4 in 4 years and then a year later traded it with a little cash for this pre owned dually and I plan on getting a few years out of it with out wearing it out. My truck stays clean. The Focus gets basically ignored lol. Its just a car. Its nice having it around for errands and short trips and when I'm really jonesing I take my truck. I find it makes driving my truck even more enjoyable. I'll drive this Focus till I retire in 5-10 years. My wife has a late model Expedition and even she will keep hers in the garage and drive the Focus if I'm not using it. Might not work for everyone but it works for me.

Wow, nothing like having plenty of TV!!
The 5er I tow with my Ram 2500 has a GVWR that is 250# more than yours. I feel it tows great with a 2500 SRW. My feels rock solid, yours must be like The Rock of Gibraltar!!!

Well I had a F-350 SRW and towed the Raptor. Now I just got a 2015 Ford F-350 DRW and a 40' 5th wheel and love it. I and across the desert in a very strong wind storm and it was solid. I have the 4.3 rear end and that gives me the wider front axel off the 450. That makes a big difference.

RHAGFO:
We pull a 3100RL Montana with the same truck as yours except it has the six speed. Stock except for exhaust brake, air bags and brake controller, only 175,000 mi. We have been coast to coast twice the last two plus years including Colorado mountains and never a white knuckle. I am sure the duallys are more stable but the 2500 works fine for us.

Since I bought my truck our son has repeatedly said he wants to buy it. I know I'm very close on payload with it. I have "built" a new dually on the Ford website. It will fit in the garage, but only if I sell the hot rod and take its place.
The biggest issue for me: a dually wont fit in a automatic car wash. I try to keep my stuff clean. I don't want to hand wash that monster, or pay someone else to every 2 weeks. Best hand wash quote is $25 so far.
What does everyone else do for washing?
Y'all can tell I'm working up to this can't ya!

I'd jump on $25 to have my dually washed. Best I can get is $35 in Baton Rouge.

There are auto car washes that fit duallys. There's one in my town and I use it a lot. If you call the number on the carwash, they will tell you if a dually will fit.

Same here. Although I did go ahead and spray down my truck and trailer after picking up some concrete washout for the driveway. My brown truck was temporarily dusty white.

I feel bad just leaving mine outside all the time.
I live in a small town. Only two automatic carwashes. One is the kind that pulls the truck through, that is definitely a dually no go. The other is just a park in one spot and the washer goes around the truck. I may have to look at that one again.
