2009 Cougar 318SAB Tires
Looking for recommendations on what I should buy as a replacement for my current OEM tires on the SAB 318. I have not had any trouble as of yet, but with a 2 month trip coming up, I am thinking of upgrading before I have a problem. Not sure weather to stay with the current 15 inch rims and get new tires, get better tires and and higher capacity rims in the 15 inch size, or go to a 16 inch. I think a 16 inch will fit. Anyone with this 5th wheel updated already? What did you go with and why? Thanks for the help!!

Several members have tossed their present tires in favour of non-Chinese brands and a few have gone to the 16 in rim and tire. If you do a forum search, you should be able to find numerous posts about "tires" (15 inch), (16 inch). Several brands have been mentioned as good replacements - Maxxis being one that I am aware of.
Others who have upgraded to a better tire will offer some of their recommendations and comments about your query.
I am assuming that you still have the tires that came with the 2009 SAB????

Still the orginal tires. Before heading to Alaska, I want some peace of mind in that area.

I’ve been thinking about going from 14” to 15” wheels. I can easily find a new tire that’s 1” more in diameter with the same cross section. If that extra half-inch still offers plenty of clearance, can anybody think of any disadvantages or dangers? I only ask this because I don’t see a 15” Maxxis tire that matches my current 14” one.

Tires
Segal,
I have a 318SAB and it came with 16 inch tires. I presently have about 11K miles on the rig and am showing no signs of wear. We are planning an Alaska trip this summer and, of course, I am a bit worried about tires too. I am encouraged that the OEM tires seem to be holding up well. I will probably buy an extra spare to be on the safe side.
I would definitely recommend going with 16 inch tires.
IMHO,
John

If you do go with 16" wheels and tires, you'll have 5 "spares" already. I'd just put 2 or 3 (or more) of them in the PU bed and head north

segel10, When it came time to replace my tires I choose to upgrade to 16". I found this Tire Calculator to be a big help. Even if staying with 15" the section width and height are critical. Be sure to measure clearance on ALL original tires and then compare with specs for new tires. Clearance to slide mechanisms was my biggest concern. Good luck and be sure your rims will be load rated the same as tires. Travel safely, Hank
