Large Bolt in trailer tire

We took the Little Guy Laredo to Tucson for four nights. When we got back to Gold Canyon the left rear tire was going flat. It happen in the last couple miles of the 100 mile trip. This is a case of knowing exactly what caused the failure. The bolt showed little signs of have been run of the road very far. Attached is a picture of the bolt in the tire and the bolt that I kept as Discount tire was installing a new Endurance ST225/75R15E.

I will contact Goodyear to see what they have to say. I had not purchased Discount Tires warranty. Chris

Looking at the threads I can see why that bolt was on the road. Isn't it funny how the front tire can pick up the object ant then the rear catches it. Not the first time I have seen that happen.

Seems odd that a 3” bolt could stand up just right to make a puncture. But then again in my teens, I had a similar puncture with a bone from a T bone steak. Always wondered who I may have upset.

One of my friends picked up what looked to be a large snap pin almost the same length in her SUV tire this week down here! That's brutal. Glad you got everything worked out with it and no other serious damage.

Had a fence staple in one of my new trailer tires last year. Had to have happened in the last few miles because the tire wasn't flat when I parked the trailer. Two weeks later as I was hooking up for a Thanksgiving trip I saw the flat and rushed to DT for a new tire. That's when I found that they had stopped carrying Carlisle and only stocked Endurance.

In my experience, it is common on tandem axles on big trucks to have a nail/bolt/whatever in the rear tire. It seems the front one will stand the object up nice so it will stab the rear one.

Same on motorcycles.

I remember, years ago, a semi coming in to our local service station. A bolt had fallen out of the generator mount and lodged in the rear tandem tire on the trailer!

I’m glad that didn’t cause catastrophic tire failure and the ensuing damage.
