Dishwasher and Ice maker

Never knowing when to leave well enough alone, I have decided to put a dishwasher and ice maker in my 2006 Springdale TT. However, I have also learned that my ideas are not always smart, so please jump in!
The plan would be to enlarge the cabinet cut out directly above the coverter/circuit breaker box-right under the sink and put in a counter-top sized dishwasher. You could then reach into the sink to load the dishes from the "back" side of the counter. Whatcha think?

The icemaker is simple, I'll just get a portable.

I've taken the same dishwasher from trailer to trailer for the last 42 years and she's still working great. (Before the lynch-mob starts .. I cook she does dishes .. it works, trust me)

Besides the weight of the unit, consider the extra dishes needed to to make running it efficient. Paper plates don't count as they get really soggy.

As for the ice maker ..... Now your talking my language. And that could be kept outside.

Seriously, I have seen them in high end MH and from what I understand only use about 6 amps of power. So it is doable if the space is available. And you won't have to buy it anniversary presents. ... Hank

For the most part I am the dishwasher or try to be... As for the Ice make we have a portable that we use. As soon as the trailer is level so is the ice maker and 8 minutes later we have our first batch of ice for my coke and spirits of choice when the awning rolls out along with the chair. I am not sure I would want it permanently installed in one spot because I move if from inside to outside frequently. I do admit it would be nice to have spot set aside for it in the trailer.

I have pondered the idea of a dishwasher. Maybe if we were full timing I would want one. but for the 3 weeks were gone this year and the weekend trips its just not something I think we need.

Now, an Ice Maker I wanted right away. As soon as we had gotten our new trailer. So I just purchased one and it sits outside in our storage compartment. Plug it in and we got ice in about 8 minutes as well. This one is a small ice maker and it works great. We have one at home, but it was just to large to carry back and forth.

Be sure to post some pics if you do install a dishwasher.

I have purchased (and returned) 2 different brand ice makers. They both appear to have the same mechanism inside to make the ice. Neither of them worked. They would run through the full cycle lifing the tray, filling it up, freezing (which it did not) and dropping the tray dumping the 'ice'. The only thing that dumped was the water that was supposed to freeze but did not.

I'll stick with a couple of ice tray in the fridge and a freezer bag to hold the ice that has already been made.

I have had my ice maker for five years and it still works great. It looks pretty rugged now because I once set it up in front of the exhaust for the furnace and it melted the back some. I also had it in the cargo hold and left the light on and it melted a spot in the top. This thing is sort of like a timex...

I'm with Dave. We take along with us a small bag of ice cubes that we make at home just prior to our departure and; when we run low, we use the cubes from the freezer tray in the 5th. Obviously, we will just have to drink more so we can buy an icemaker.

Just thinking that if you need an icemaker, you are probably:

1) starting your Happy Hour too early; or
2) having an extended Happy Hour (the Happy Hour turns into Happy Hours) ; or
3) having to refill your drinks too many times; or
4) all of the above.

Festus,
The problem is the gin keeps warming up the tonic. So...more ice!

What brand of portable IM seem to be the most durable?

Menards is a "Lowe's with a clothing and a limited grocery department and a furniture department thrown in for good measure" in the middle of the store...

Around here, if Menard's don't have it, you don't need it !!! LOL

Talking Yeh Hank

I'm with Hank. I've had the same dishwasher for 45 years, I cook and she washes. We did get a great deal on an Emerson Portable Ice Maker last summer at Target. Reg. $159.00 for $99.00 and it works great. Makes ice faster than I can use it.
