That is a pretty good idea to use that jack for. That was some out of the box thinking. It beats them just laying around and tripping over LOL

only tried it in the garage-I have it in my 50x70 garage, but it rocked easy front to back without, and when installed and cranked into wedge it tight almost no fore and aft movement even with myself and 14 year old doing our best to get it to move.

Easy to make and can adjust for any axle width, I was a little too narrow first so I added the pads on each side and fits better, I was at 20 degree angle to get it like it is, FYI.

schwalback & others -
If you don't have a spare jack hanging around, there is a similar wheel chock that can be made using a variation of schwalback's.
I made one and you can find out information about it complete with photos by visiting this site :

Simple, cheap and it works!

Festus2, thanks for the link. I just made myself a set. Cheap n simple. Initially when I first started reading the post for making the stabilizers I was mad at myself for tossing the old jacks (they just sat around forever and got rusty). Well tks to you for the link I made some using 4x4's and I feel better now. Just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger on the $$$ ones from CW. Gotta love this forum!!!

Mingo -
These DIY chocks are great! A bit bulkier than the commercial ones, but work equally as well and; as you rightly pointed out, they are "cheap 'n simple". You'll probably get some comments and questions about them from inquisitive camping neighbours. Glad they worked out for you!

Festus2...you're right lots of questions and now several orders from friends and neighbors. Will make great gifts for my RV ing friends. Opted to go with 4x4 and just sealed em with Thompson Water Seal. Thanks again. Heres a pic of them installed. Click image for larger version

J-blocks from start of this post were used for 5 days, unbelivably stable, so much so that when we were packing up, 5 of us, I took them out and the DW decided to eat inside trailer, with j-blocks out trailer rocked so much that she claimed she was getting motion sickness and had to go outside, all 5 days with in she had no problem because it was rock solid!

I keep a set of plastic car ramps with me. The kind like you use to change oil with. I stick them between the wheels for chocks, they work pretty well. Plus, if I ever have a flat, they double as a ramp to get the flat off ground. Two birds with one stone.
