Water Filtration

Wanting to get some current opinions. Is the Clearsource Premium RV Water Filter System at $400 twice as good as the RV Water Filter Store system at $180?

If you aren't dead set on an installed water filter system and are looking primarily for water to drink, cook, brush your teeth, you could check out Zero Water. 12 cup capacity container, a pretty fast filtration rate, delivers consistently zero particulate water and removes unpleasant taste/smell as well. Much less than an installed system and easier. We use an external filter and then for anything that goes in the mouth we use our Zero Water pitcher. Very pleased with it for 2 years now.

I found both prices to be too high for what you get. You can easily make the system yourself using the below linked product. String as many as you like together with varying types of filters.

Whichever you choose I am sure it will work well.

I use a particulate filter (canister type with removable filter) to filter my water and a Zero Water pitcher as already suggested for drinking/coffee, etc.

I've used the blue filters from Walmart (Camco?), I've got a single canister type filter and a double type filter (Neither of the 2 you mentioned). I've used all of them across the south and southwest - I just can't really tell a lot of difference in any of them so I doubt there would be a lot of difference between the units. In fact I was reviewing those today thinking I would get a different setup. Just read the specs for the filters on the 2 systems, IIRC they were pretty much identical. Looked like a little better stand/support on the Clearsource.

I was trying to eliminate hard water, hard water spots etc. Those kinds of filter don't help (I've tried them). I should be receiving a portable RV water softener the 26th that is supposed to correct that.

Get a cartrige water filter that takes a 2-1/2" x 10" cartridge. The cartridges are easy to find and several types are available depending on need. There are water softener cartridges available but they aren't very effective, especially for high volume flow. We use a single cartridge unit and a pitcher filter inside for drinking water.

I too use the blue filter from WalMart. Seems to get most of the grit out.
I also use a Britta water pitcher (WalMart) that filters pretty good for drinking water.

Great advice! I just ordered a couple and some filters. Will build a bracket for them myself. Thanks.

The Blue Camco filter is better than no external filter being used at all. And why anyone would connect to a city water source and not have an external filter "of some kind" in line at the water hose is beyond me..

The sediment filter in any of them.. even the blue cheapo camco will catch most of the crap before it gets into your entire RV water system..

I myself prefer the dual stage filter with a clear filter canister for the 1.0 micron sediment filter and a .5 micron carbon filter for the other one...

This filters the entire water system incoming water before it comes into the RV.. Its as good or better than Brita or any of the other

I buy a pack filter setup that gets me two sediment filters and one carbon filter for about $35.. standard 10" filters. the sediment filter can be washed out a few times to extend its life.

Images of what you get with the Camco blue filter verses a two stage filter... many folks also forget there is a small sediment filter on the water pump from the fresh water tank. I filter that water as well because I don't want to have to crawl in behind the rear access panel and clean or change a plugged up water pump filter....

This link is for a less expensive dual stage filter with 5 micron for sediment and .5 for carbon... I prefer my 1 micron sediment filter and pay a bit more for it..

The image of my sediment filter after 2 days in an RV park shows what didnt get into my water system.
