Gas shut off on Onan Genny

I have several generators 4 as a matter of fact that I have accumulated over the years. Of which is my 4k onan in my TH, all of the others have a fuel shut off valve installed and between using fuel stabilizer and the shut off I have had excellent experience with cranking. I always exercise my units at least once month, and run all the fuel out of the carb. The Onan required the prime button being held for up to 30 seconds and several attempts to start the unit. I finally installed a shut off valve in the gas line to the carb. and now after a few seconds of prime it has been starting on the first or second attempt. It is a little more work to be sure your valve is open when firing the unit but it does help with the starting process and I'm sure it will help with the life of the starter.
Anyone else done this to their Onboard units?
