RV Insurance for my new Keystone Bullet

I'm taking delivery of my Keystone Bullet 308BHS in a few weeks and was shopping for RV insurance. My primary insurer is Geico and I just called for a quote. I couldn't believe what they quoted me. Almost $1250 every 6 months? Seriously???? I just did an online quote with Good Sam. Yearly quote was $219. Ok. Am I missing something? My driving record is squeaky clean. I'm at a loss for words with Geico's quote. Anyone have recommendations for a good RV insurer?

That quote sounds incorrect to me... I'm insured by progressive and think it's around $900/yearly for a 37' toy hauler.

You are already insure for liability while towing on your Auto Policy. If all you're looking for is Comp/Collision, that quote seems way out of line. Try Allstate.

Bear in mind that your "Zero Deductible Glass Protection" does not apply to your camper so don't park down range of the mower $$$!

That quote can't be accurate for adding an RV to an existing policy. I think mine is $24 month? (Geico) and I get new RV replacement for 7 years if mine is totaled. You need to look into that again.

I called back Geico a second time to get another quote on the same trailer. The second rep I spoke to quoted me about the same, $1220 for 6 months. This was an add-on vehicle to my current policy. I just don't get it!! I'm going to look a quotes from those companies mentioned here.

I don't get it either. Looks like your best bet is to look elsewhere but I, and others, do not pay anything like that for our RV insurance. Heck, the rates they are quoting you are double what I pay for 3 vehicles. Something's wrong.

When towing you are covered by your truck insurance. You only need insurance when not towing. I think mine is about $250 per year.

Many times insurance companies are required to offer the same coverage in all areas they operate... BUT they do not wish to actually take any policies of a certain kind in certain markets... i.e. RVs in Michigan...

So they intentionally price themselves out of that market.

You're so right. I was thinking the exact same thing. The extortionately high premiums are a direct result of them not wanting to insure recreational vehicles in my state. Michigan is a no-fault state. I'm wondering if Geico competitively underwrites RV policies in traditional tort driven states???

Our 36 ft Montana is covered under our auto policy for comprehensive and collision for $274 per year. Sounds like your company does not want the business.

Insurance

Yep, found out the same thing with our car insurance. The rates were way too high for the trailer. Ended up with Progressive for about $313 a year.

Also just so you have a little more to go on, we pay $329 a year as part of our Geico coverage, and live in the Memphis area.

I just checked with Patti and ours is $298 per year with State Farm... And all I need to do is sing "like a good neighbor, state farm is there" and our agent pops up
Yes, with rates as high as the poster is quoting it sounds as if a company does not want to cover rvs...

We moved from Louisiana (Napoleonic Code) to Michigan (No Fault law). Our insurance in Michigan for vehicles increased significantly. When we bought the Springdale ($18K value) State Farm did not insure RV's, GEICO was over $1000, Farm Bureau was $800 and Progressive was $220. When we upgraded to the Cougar, the rates from "nationally known auto insurance companies" was still outrageous. We stayed with Progressive (they treated us properly with the tree damage to the Springdale) and they still are the cheapest for comparable coverage in Michigan. Other states, with completely different insurance regulations do have cheaper coverage, even with automobile insurance underwriters, but in Michigan, I haven't found an "auto insurer" who beats Good Sam or Progressive.
