Testing Awning Switch

My elec. awning blows a fuse when you hit the retract switch. It extended fine and hitting extend does not blow the fuse. I unhooked the wire at the motor and can apply power there and the motor works in both directions. I'm not sure if it is a switch problem or a wire problem. Does anyone know how to check the switch with a meter?
There are 4 wires hooked to the switch. Not sure how those 4 wires are connected down to just two wires out to the motor.
Thanks for your help.

Still not exactly how the switch should test with a multi meter yet, but now know the switch is bad. I can operate the awning by touching the motor wires from the back of the switch to the pos. and ground from the back of the switch.
When I get a new switch I will test it with a multi meter and compair the two.
One thing that puzzles me is one of the wires that goes to the motor (the white wire) showes to be grounded by using the meter and testing for ground.
