90 degree elbow at propane regulator

I have a model 6020 auto. change over regulator with two 12" hose's, one going to each tank. I wanted to reduce the bend in the hose by installing a 90 degree elbow coming out of each side of the regulator. My hoses have the 1/4" NPT end (not the inverted flare) that has a 20 pitch thread. I ordered a 1/4" NPT (male - female) 90 degree elbow from Amazon (Boeray 2pcs Brass Fitting, 90 Degree Barstock Street Elbow, 1/4" NPT Male Pipe to 1/4" NPT Female Pipe), but those threads are 18 pitch and a little larger in diameter and won't fit into the regulator. Researching, I can't figure out why the 2 different pitch and size for 1/4" NPT fittings.
So I'm asking here if anyone else has ran into this, and if you know where I can get a 20 pitch 1/4" NPT elbow.

Would a longer pig tail do the trick?

Spec on that regulator says 3/8 flare outlet.
Did you remove the 3/8 flare fittings on outlet of regulator?

So one of my pigtails sprung a leak and as thinking about doing an elbow for the same reason but ended up just ordering longer pigtails.

All I could find was 1/4" inverted flare pigtails but my regulator and old pig tail had 3/8" connections... no adapter. Finally went to the RV store and bought the 3/8 - 1/4 inverted flare adapter. They didn't have an elbow with the same specs so I just decided it was better to keep some of my sanity and end my search there. Good luck to you!

Longer pigtail will have to be the answer.
The 3/8 outlet size is for the "outlet" side to the RV, not the inlet side (pigtails from the tanks).

Beware of introducing more joints in gas lines. Each joint is a potential leak source.
I vote with just about everyone else, longer pigtails is a better solution.
