What you see on the road!

I drive for a car dealer part time picking up auction cars and also driving new cars to other dealers to do dealer trades, so I'm all over IN, OH, Ill and MI and sometimes into WI. Farthest was a dealer trade in Colorado Springs.
So while I'm out and about I'm amazed to see so many campers being towed without WDH or sway bars and many driving way over the speed limit. I passed one Thursday, they were running 75mph on I-70 with a Chevy Tahoe pulling what appeared to be an aprox 20ft camper, no WDH hitch or sway bar. I watched them for a bit in my mirror after passing them and seen the trailer having its way with the tail end of the Tahoe and just thought, that's an accident waiting to happen. So with starting to see more campers out on the roads I started watching how they were hitched up and the size of the TV vs the camper...none with WDH, most with back of TV sagging and most running 70mph or more and we wonder why there are towing accidents out there on our hiways...just a personal observation of which I'm sure many have seen those same issues.

Along the same line, just the other day I saw a car with dealer tags on I-70 speeding by a person who was already speeding, driving 75 with no WDH.
Stephen, you already knew this was coming.

Have read several discussions on here regarding towing speeds. I am mystified by some of the "logic" used in explaining the need to drive so fast. One of my favorites is "the speed limit is (insert number here) and I don't want to create a hazard by driving (insert numbers here) mph less than the flow of traffic".
Just this past weekend, my youngest son and I drove to Jarbidge, NV (about 1690 miles round trip) in order to bring home an antique John Deere that was given to me by my late brother's wife. I thought it prudent to check on the rules of the road in Nevada regarding towing. The speed limit while towing is 65mph - even though the posted freeway speed limit is anywhere from 65mph to 80mph. I think I was the only vehicle on I-80 driving at 65. I was pulling a flat bed equipment trailer with a 6500# tractor aboard. The load was well balanced and we never had any issues with sway but 65mph is FAST ENOUGH! Oh - and to the Chevy Duramax pulling a Jayco Fifth wheel that passed me and nearly clipped my bumper when pulling back into the right lane - I hope you don't always drive like that

Then you got guys like this running around. Only thing holding tank on is a 1" ratchet strap hooked to the fender wells. Politely asked the DW to give him some space while behind him.

A couple years back in Utah, I was passed by a virtually identical setup as ours - 6.7 Ford CC, Montana 343RL. I was doing about 68. He was out of sight within a mile. 68-70 mph is right at comfortable limits for me. I can only guess what 80-85 felt like.

WDH hitches, IMO, are mandatory with almost any TT regardless of the size of the pickup. We live within a couple of miles of I-87/Adirondack Northway. It amazes me what people on that road tow and with massive amount of sway that have no seat-of-the-pants feel - and to 'pick on' many, many have Quebecois plates

If you take a 100 mile trip @ 65 m.p.h. it will take you 1.5 hrs. At 75 m.p.h. it will take 1.3 hrs. Is the increase in speed and the associated risks really worth arriving 2 tenths of an hour sooner? Could never understand that, like the people that just have to pass you, then cut you off to get in front of you so that they can spend the next stop light a whopping 54 feet closer to the stop light. To each his own.

Or at the camp ground. We were just camped near a new half ton Cougar in the 29- 31 ft range. Pulled by a F250 ball only on hitch, no WHD or anti sway. They had 2 small children.
