1/2 Ton Suburban towing Passport 2510 RB

I could use some help. I am thinking about buying a 28 ft. Keystone Passport that weighs 4795 lbs. and planning to tow it with 2011 4x4 1/2 ton Suburban. It has HD tranny with cooling and it is rated for 8000 lbs towing. I was wondering if anybody out there has the similar set up and if you have experienced any issues going through the mountains. It's just two of us and we will be carrying a very limited load. Anxious to see any experiences, comments and opinions.

Your limitation is, of course, the VEHICLE hitch weight rating. Not the hitch itself, the VEHICLE. It is likely 800#. You want at least 13% of the FULLY LOADED TT weight on the tongue, so max TT weight (assuming 800#) is 6154#. Looks great to me.

Once fully loaded and ready to go, weigh everything CAREFULLY, especially TV rear GAWR. You will likely need WDH adjusted tighter than many folks here like, but I'll bet it works fine. I have eight washers in my 10,000# Equalizer and it works like a dream.

Chuck,

Thanks for your comments. After reading all related threads, we have decided to go with a slightly smaller TT. We have decided to go with Passport 23RB Elite. It is slightly lighter and shorter than our initial choice - 2510RB. This way I can keep my Suburban instead of getting another new truck.

I have a 1/2 ton Yukopn XL Denali and tow a Passport 2910bh. I have had no issues and we have gone up and down the east coast. Dont sell yourself or the vehicle short...you may regret buying the smaller TT. The suburban will be fine.

I know what you mean. If we really enjoy this TTing experience, then we can always upgrade. But I really appreciate your information.

We have 3 Chev Avalanche's in the family, which is the same as the Suburban/Yukon XL. 2 are pulling 30ft Passports and we pull 266RBS Sprinter (which is not considered an ultra light) with no problems.

So how did things work out Baseballcoach? I'm considering the 2510RB and towing with a 2008 Denali XL.

baseballcoach's last activity on the forum was on 08-26-2013 so I doubt very much if he/she will notice your post.

We have a 2510rb. I pulled it from Southeast Missouri to the Smokies and back with a 2003 Ford F150. The truck has the factory transmission cooler, but only 3.31 rear end gears. It did alright. I didn't have any white knuckle experiences. I did take my time. I think you will be OK. Just watch the weights.
