Tank Vents - 3 tanks 2 vents ???

So I was up on the roof and noticed there are only 2 vent stacks. I have 3 tanks, 1 black, 2 gray. 2 of the tanks are in the front for the bath (gray and black) and 1 is in the rear for I assume the (mid) kitchen and washer/dryer hookup in the garage. Both vents are in the front, none on the rear. Or might the kitchen be plumbed to the front gray tank and the rear gray tank only for the W/D hookup? The last rig had a similar setup but had 3 vents and the W/D hookup was up front in the closet.

Also, there are 2 what appear to be some sort of vents along the center of the roof, one up front, one in back, they are about the size of a smoke alarm. Never run across these before. Ideas?

You may have a "vent" under your kitchen sink that doesn't go through to the roof. Check under the sink and look for a black, PVC-type short stack with a removable cap on it. This is a "cheater or mechanical" vent that takes the place of the usual through -the-roof type vent.
Have a look there and get back to us if you have one of these types.

How are the steps going?
Would like to get on top mine :-)
May be one stack for 2 grays; one for black. On our Raptor if not all seen on brochures that ceiling/roof is vented may be the other two in the center.

Take Care

What Festus2 said plus the others are attic vents to let heat and moisture escape from the space between the ceiling and the roof. (attic)

Ok thanks, I'll look under the kitchen sink. Didn't think about that. There is the "drain" at the W/D hookup with a removable cap on it, but I didn't think that could count as a vent being it is capped. I don't have a W/D.

Ok too on the attic vents. That's a first for me.

Off topic re Steps I started pulling them apart, middle step had about 30 3" screws holding the OSB step to the 2x2 "frame". About 8 of these were already stripped in the head and buried into the OSB about 1/4". I gave up after trying to get the stripped screws out and put it back together, minus about 20 screws. May try again at a later time. If I try to pry it apart I'll break other important things besides the OSB step and 2x2 frame of which I can replace.

Black Tank Vent

I have problems with the fact my 2012 Sprinter appears to have no black tank vent meaning I get a blow back every time I flush and when dumping the tank I need someone inside to operate open the toilet valve. I have followed advise on these forums about the fact the vent might be blocked so went on the roof and put a hose down the first vent, I could see water coming out of the grey tank so tried the same thing on the second vent, again water came out of the grey tank meaning both vents flushed the grey, seems odd. Any ideas.

Some clarification is needed: Your RV is a 2012 model and you state that your toilet "gurgles" when being flushed and that someone has to stand inside to open the toilet valve when dumping. You say that you don't think you've got a vent on the black tank.

Question: Has the black tank always acted this way and has the toilet always gurgled when being flushed? If so, then your theory may be correct, but if it worked properly in the past, but not now, I'd think you have a vent stack (or it would have always gurgled) and that now, for some reason, the vent is plugged.

Please clarify.....

Black Tank Vent

I purchased the unit new in October 2012 but didn't use it until Feb 2013, "it's our retreat from the winter weather and prefer it to a condo ". Have been using it again for the past six weeks and to answer your question yes I believe it has always done it but last year I was more concerned with the fact that the kitchen sink emptied into the black water tank and getting that remedied. Camping World finally fixed this after intervention from their CEO.

If there has been a significant plumbing issue and the CEO of Camping World has become involved. I'd recommend contacting them again. If they were working on the sink emptying into the black tank, then they might have done something to the black tank that you'd be better off having them repair.
