periodic awning exercise

seems like every time i open my awning it’s wet…i’m thinking it’s a good idea to open both awnings once a month to prevent mold and fabric breakdown …my old coleman popup had a cover for the awning to protect it…anyone use one?

I purchased plastic rain gutter from Home Depot and it slides perfectly over the awning protecting it for the winter months. Cheap and effective.
