I agonized over this for months. I had a 2015 crew cab 6 ft 6 inch bed 2500hd duramax diesel.
Knew we were going to buy a fifth wheel. Payload was only 2300 pounds. 20 inch tires only rated for like 3150 pounds.
Neighbor across from me at the campground had the same truck as mine, but 2 years older Said it pulled his Jayco 336fbok just great. (Turns out the 5th wheel I bought has a gvwr 2500 pounds more than his).
So I can buy higher rated tires, timbrens or sumo springs or air bags, Hey if I use an anderson hitch I'll save almost 200 pounds, I think I might be able to do it. Figured I was going spend near 2 grand.
Then I saw an article on facebook of a 5th wheel truck rollover on I57 north of me. Said the F250 had blown out a rear tire and lost control. Both destroyed, pieces laying everywhere.
Traded off my duramax for a 2018 Ram dually that's in my sig. 5400 pound payload and 4 back tires.
