Anyone live in NM, maybe I can visit with you 14 days ago?

Not sure how but we got kicked out of a NF campground when this all began, so the state has a long reach somehow.
Also, state parks now require a NM ID for entrance, but no overnight camping either.

I just traveled from Clovis to Durango on Saturday (through Albuquerque). The RV park I stayed at in Clovis on Friday seemed close to 100% capacity. I saw a lot of Texas plates on the way through the state. No issues with travel. In Albuquerque, people were wearing masks outside (pumping gas, etc.).

My guess would be the state isn't controlling the federal land but rather their residency laws just as they can control to a point who travels the roads etc.

Yup, masks in public and crowded places is pretty much the law now

Thank you. Good helpful info.
edit add: Did you go up 550 or through Santa Fe and Pagosa Springs? Wondering what you thought of the 550 drive.

I went up 550 from Albuquerque. It seemed like a constant climb when you get out of Albuquerque. Some areas had some harder pulls. I'm sure you would be fine in your truck. The speed limit on that route had me puzzled. It would go from 55-75 for almost no reason. It might have been a speed change based on reservations. You go through a lot of Indian reservations before you get to Colorado.

I took the Santa Fe to Pagosa route last year. It's more scenic. I remember it being slower in spots. I don't remember a lot of hard pulls on that route, but I don't notice it as much when go slower in my truck.

I have done the Santa Fe to Pagosa route many times, but it's been awhile. I do remember some tight switchbacks and hard pulls. I don't have a problem going that way again but thought I would do 550 for a change. I have done 550 before. Not sure if it was just a short section or all the way to Albuquerque. Whichever way I go, I'll probably return the other route.
Thanks again.

You catch 550 out of Bernalillo, north of Abq and it's not a bad tow. I like to mix it up once in a while but to me, that is the best way up to Durango from Abq. Maybe even to Pagosa, for a while anyways.

We'll be leaving from the KOA in Bernalilo going to Vallecito Resort north of Bayfield. 550 is maybe 20 minutes and 20 miles shorter. We'll be there 4 weeks so will have plenty of time to revisit Pagosa Springs.

I called a New Mexico Highway Patrol office yesterday. Talked to the patrol admin asst. I explained we would be spending 2 nights at a RV park in Bernalillo. To be honest I don't know what the bottom line is. There were a lot of "if, ands, and buts". I told her we will be on our way in 10 days.
Also called the KOA in Bernalillo. They said "come on". Of course.

If it's anything like Michigan, the New Mexico State Police are "reacting to today's input" and have no idea what "tomorrow's directives from the governor" will contain. So, they can't give you any information on "tomorrow" until "day after tomorrow" and they know what happened yesterday.....

Double speak for "nobody has a clear line on what to enforce and how to enforce it"....

Sort of like being on a moving boat, rocking and rolling in the ocean on multiple waves and trying to aim at a target 30 miles away. Fire the guns without "absolute guidance and timing" and you'll never hit anything..... So far, I don't know of any state that has "absolute guidance and timing".....

Take your chances, you're a "small ripple in a humongus ocean" and chances are nobody will ever notice that you're even there..... No guts, no glory, so go for it and enjoy your trip.....

I say go for it and don't fret about it. Whats's the worst that can happen? Turn around? Find a different route? It's not like they are "booting" vehicles and removing the boots 14 days later. Unless your'e on America's Most Wanted and just don't want to get stopped.

I haven't decided what route to take back to Texas. I'd like to take a couple day break somewhere, but technically couldn't leave an RV Park in NM. I plan to leave the Durango area next week.

I was just reading a moment ago and it appears Bernalillo county is the hotspot for the virus in NM. In the RV should be a different situation but be aware.

If you watch/listen to the news media everywhere/anywhere they mention is currently "the hot spot" whether it's the entire state or a particular city.
This "pandemic" has been filled with SOOOOO much information, misinformation, speculation, & boat loads of BS that who knows WTF!
If it were me I'd go do as you want til someone says you can't, doubtful that will happen! Wear a mask, wash your hands & social distance, just as they've been advising since day one of this so called "pandemic".

^^^^^As I've said all my life believe what you see, not what you hear.

Strangely in this little part of FL, inundated by tourists from all over the place (talked to 2 trucks full of folks from Iowa this afternoon that had been in mainland FL then visiting here - no problems), things are normal. Hmmm. Oh, but the mainstream media hasn't zeroed in here....yet.

Carlsbad caverns in new Mexico were amazing.. Just left, no question or concern about a 14 day quarantine.
