Refurb Question
I have a 2005 Springdale that I bought with the intentions of returning. Lots of rot, top and bottom. Looking on ideas on how to proceed.

Welcome to the forum
" bought with the intention of returning'? you bought it thinking you were going to return it? To whom? It begs the question, why would you buy ANYITHING with the intention to return it?
A little more information would help. If you bough tit new and are now trying to return it, good luck because it's how old? maintenance records? Ill wait to respond any more until I at least get some more history on this unit.

Brain fart!!! I think...…
Your auto correct is taking over I think you mean you want to REBURBISH the trailer that you bought. If that's the case, posting pictures of the damage/rot would be very helpful in our advise on how to proceed.
and again WELCPOME TO THE FORUM

Welcome to the forum! Lots of good folks and info here.
Wow! I didn't know anyone in Crawfordville owned an RV....they're all either coming or going through. I'm in Panacea and stay 5 mos. a year here. In Crawfordville 4 times a week!

Yes it is a refurb. There is a lot of rot on the floor and on the one side of the roof. Not sure if I should work top to bottom, bottom to top, or even if it matters. A lot of work, pretty much clearing out as much as I can to expose what needs to be worked on. I haveattached some pics.

I would start at the top, fix the roof. That way all your work on the inside won’t be a waste of time. If you have mold, deal with it now, make sure you use the right stuff to eliminate it. You’ve got some serious work ahead of you.

lclark, I applaud your efforts to restore this....but why? You apparently are going to restore this from top to bottom looking at the pics. That is more costly than buying something that is actually functional... Rationale?

Let me be the first to second Danny's thoughts on the "reburbishing."
I'm not saying to trash the idea, but simply to give some serious thought to the final cost/return ratio. I find it hard to believe that a refurbished 16 year old RV would be worth much.

People refurbish old things because they like to. I belong to the XS11 motorcycle owners association where it is a hobby to work on the bikes. You can pour a lot of money into a project and it is true that you never get that money back when it is eventually sold.

The key to refurbishing anything, be it Yamaha motorcycles or older Keystone trailers is that if you do everything yourself, the costs are much less. I have refurbished dozens and dozens of vintage Japanese motorcycles and once you get going and the spare parts have started piling up, costs are actually fairly minimal except for the labor you put in which you can never break even. The OP asked where to start? Make the roof right as that is where most of the water penetration happened in the past. Learn how to do this and the windows need to be reinstalled properly. Learn to rewire and install pex. Youtube will be your friend. Ask for advice on how to seal the underside so as not to cause problems for your new floor.
