Fresh water tank leak

Looking for some advise on a leak, more like a drip. When I fill the fresh water tank full, we get a drip down along the drain. Once the tank empties a bit the leak stops. I've tried to pull the underbelly down far enough to possibly see anything but I would have to pull the insulation down around the drain and LP line. Wondering what's the possible causes of this leak. Fill tube crack? Crack in the tank? Anyone had a similar issue?

I thought about trying to tackle this myself this spring if I can figure out what to look for.

Be careful, don't fill the tank full and then FIND IT!

My issue was with a grey tank that only leaked when it got full. Ours was due to screws left on top of the tank during construction that wore holes through it. Yours could be anything, BUT, the leaking water coming from the top of the tank compromised the bottom of our floor. DON'T fill it full and avoid that until you ascertain what is going on.

The hose clamp on the fill hose to tank connection may need tightening. this would result in the symptom you describe... Only leaking when full.

I hope it's honestly that simple. Now just to get the underbelly off to get a closer look.

Thanks!

Depending on where the tank is, it can be. Only remove as many screws as you need to have a look. We use a small flashlight as it makes it easier.

I'd suggest checking the connection where the pump pickup tube exits the tank as well. I bought a USB endoscope for getting into tight spaces a couple of years ago and it works well for me. You can get one for under $25 on the internet.

**Update**

I ended up taking the FW in to the dealer to have the water leak checked out. Come to find out there was a small leak close to the drain that they had a hard time finding. They said it basically came down to water weight forcing the crack open, leak enough water out, lose enough weight and then it would seal and be fine. First they tried to seal it will a fiberglass patch (not sure why) which didn't work. Then they tried an epoxy which seems to have fixed it. Only time will tell.

Hopefully it helps someone else that may have a crack.

The other options were to fully remove the tank to try to fuse the crack back together or replace the tank.

Honestly was thinking of just trying to use some flex tape/leak seal and call it good.

Dealer quoted me $1500-2000. That was a bit eye opening. Cheap @$$ flemsy tanks.
