Issue with 2001 Cabana M-2100

Hello,

We just bought a 2001 Keystone Cabana (model 2100). It's our first trailer and we are excited to finally have something to vacation in, but have run into a problem. The previous owner had a 4 pin connector hookup on this trailer to his dodge pickup. When he sold it to us, he removed the connector because he wanted it for his new trailer. We didn't think this was a huge deal as the trailer comes with a 7 pin cord (that's what our 2018 Traverse has on it). However, I plugged it in and found that it didn't work. I removed the tape covering the junction box and found that our 7-pin cord isn't even connected. I have a bunch of wires coming into the junction box from the trailer, and we don't understand what they are for. The "manual" that the trailer has is useless for this purpose. I was hoping that someone here might know what the various wire colors are for. Inside the junction box the two large red wires are tied together. Also, the white/yellow wire and the green wire are tied together. Any suggestions on where to find out the meanings of each wire coming from the trailer so that I don't have to pull the thing apart to trace wires?

Thanks!

Michael

You're going to have to do some "investigating" to determine which lug in that junction box go to each of the trailer functions. The easiest way is to drag out a 12 volt battery. You can use the one on your trailer tongue, and connect the battery negative terminal to ground, then using a wire (or test lead) connected to the positive battery terminal, touch each of those lugs in the junction box. BE CAREFUL TO IDENTIFY AND NOT TOUCH THE NEGATIVE LUG). Have someone helping you from behind the trailer and as the brake lights light, mark that lug, then left turn signal, right turn signal, clearance lights. Then all that's left is brakes and charge line. The center is reverse/back-up lights and is typically not used on Keystone products.

Then, with your "identified lug functions" connect the wires from the 7 pin umbilical cable based on this diagram.... The color code in the bottom drawing should be the same as your disconnected trailer umbilical cable. So start with the color wires for each function and attach to the lug that works on that specific function.

Once you have that done, test and adjust as necessary, however NEVER change out the tow vehicle wiring to match the trailer. If you do, then it will not work with any other trailers, so wire your trailer to match the tow vehicle !!!
