Passport Ultra Light 285RL Air Conditioning

I am looking for recommendations on how to handle this but I want to add another AC unit to my trailer. I believe it is a 2010 model and the current unit outs out cold air but not enough to suit us in th3 bedroom.

I am thinking about adding a 15k btu unit in the bedroom vent which may be enough to cool the whole camper and will for sure cool the bedroom. I’m looking at just setting up a plug for this unit and not running it thru the panel (plug it in to 20 amp receptacle on service) since I’m not sure if it’s pre-wired for a second unit.

Although I’m technically savvy and already done a full rebuild on an old deer camper, Don’t think I’m interested in converting to 50 amp service because we may be buying a newer model in few years and i could pull this one out and transfer it to new one.

Looking for thoughts, ideas, what am I missing, and what should I consider. What features do I need to look for on a unit that would drop in that hole?

Welcome to the forum

Couple of considerations. Is the bedroom roof built to support the weight of an AC unit? If so,the 14X14 hole is the standard size, so any RV AC will fit. I would use a NON ducted unit, since I would bet the ductwork isn’t run to that vent.

Converting to 50A service would be a daunting task at best. How to route the wiring could prove problematic if your thinking of removing it when/if you move up to a new unit, It can be done but think about it before you do anything that can’t be undone.

Thank you Chuckster, I do have to investigate the best way/place to run the wiring. I don’t want the install to look bad for sure. I would think others have been in my situation and had good results and some pointers
