Plastic Toilet

Love the new tt,but it came with a plastic toilet. I`m guessing it`s not a big deal to change? Looked for posts on this and have seen none.

About the only problem other than connecting up the water is the toilet flange... they are different bolt patterns between brands and even between models.. I when with a Thetford porcelain because it was a direct replacement for the plastic one in my Passport..

I had a porcelain break in a previous RV, replaced it with a plastic because I couldn't see spending nearly $300 on a toilet I didn't use that often.

Not a bad price if it will work for your unit. The one that I needed was twice the price. Check where the water connection is, different toilets have them in different spots. Make sure your water line is long enough for it.

Just replaced a Dometic 300 (plastic) with a Dometic 310 (porcelain). Direct replacement, flange bolts and water connection exactly the same. I paid $128 for the 310 with sprayer at Amazon. Extremely happy with it. Our main issue with the plastic was how it squeaked when being used. Very annoying especially at night. I'll now wait for the funny comments.

bsmith0404,
My Alpine came with a plastic toilet. Been thinking about replacing it with porcelain. How did your porcelain toilet break or what do you think happened to make it break.
Was it vibration, hitting bumps, installed wrong, or cheap porcelain. Would like to know before any change. Thanks

I've heard all sorts of "sounds" emanating from the bathroom when the toilet is being used but I must say that I've never heard any "squeaking". You didn't, by any chance, place a can of WD40 within easy reach and alongside the usual can of aerosol spray?

My 300 also squeaks and I am looking for a replacement. The squeaking is coming from the joint between the bowl and lower pedestal.

Good one, Festus2!

Seriously, as mentioned by slow, the "squeking" source is where the bowl and pedestal are joined.

I suppose most people have their "pet peeves", whether or not it's a squeak or another "issue". Anyway, so far I've never seen a toilet of any kind that is "sound free". If it's not a "squeak" it'll be a "knock" when the water valve closes or a "swish" when the pedal is pushed.

All said, there's only so much "noise abatement" that can be done in an enclosed space that's smaller than 200 square feet (trailer interior). No matter which toilet is installed, there'll always be a "tinkle" or a "swish" or a "plop" in the middle of the night...................

Noise.... Really.... of all the things that can/do emanate from that tiny space in our trailers..... that's what bothers you

You would be surprised at the noise a plastic toilet makes when a 6'1" almost 300lbs man sits on it.Plastic has to go.Before we both end up broken and on the floor.

You can see the specs on the 300, 310, and 320 toilets on the more info button, then specs on the page that opens up at this link: http://www.dometic.com/USA/MS-7207-R...tyFlush-Series

We have had both and now have plastic. Our Arctic Fox had porcelain and I do have to say it was nicer in every way: solid, quiet, and most importantly, when doing you know what the flushes actually kept the sides of the toilet clean. I'm not about to change it in our cheapy Hideout because I'm too cheap. But porcelain beats plastic in every way.

Replaced our factory installed Dometic 300 with a 320 yesterday. I cannot understand why I waited so long to make the change. No creaking noise and stable!

A word of caution for those considering the swap. The 320 is deeper (front to back) than the 310 and 300. The extra length is in the rear of the 320 toilet so 11" is needed from the back wall to the center of the poop hole. Luckily we had 10 1/2" but it is set at an angle in a corner, so it fits.

Also watch not to drop a brass mounting screw into the tank, like I did. It took more time to recover the screw than swapping the toilet and installing a shut off valve.

One issue that still exists is the water hammering when the pedal is released. I tried a hammer arrester from Home Depot, but it made no difference so I returned it. Next step will be to cover the water lines behind the shower that may be smacking the walls and amplifying the hammering noise.
