New purchase decision - help needed!

Looking at buying a new travel trailer. Looking at a Keystone Cougar 28RLS and a Coachmen Apex 279RLSS. Anybody had any experience with either model?

I have never owned either, but looked at them. My opinion with Coachman was that they are a lower quality and tend to not hold value as well. It just isn't as popular of a brand anymore. I would check NADA on both models you are considering, look at used prices of model years 2-3 years old and see how well they hold value. Also do a google on used ones and see what dealers/private owners are selling for. Many RV owners find themselves upgrading 2-5 years down the road, know what kind of a bath you are going to take before you commit to taking it.

Try using our forum Search function to see if there are any threads/posts about the Cougar 28RLS. Since almost all of our members are current owners of Keystone products, there may not be much in the way of feedback about the Coachmen.

We bought our Cougar High Country at the end of Feb. this year. Before we bought we looked at many, many trailers, among them several Coachmen. The Coachmen just didn't have the quality of the Cougar. We looked at the cabinet/cabinet door construction, carpeting, the seal of the slides when open/closed (on some of the Coachment you could see light at the edges of the slides when open), the flex of the walls, counter tops, furniture etc. etc. My wife liked the floorplan of the Coachmen a little more but the quality won out.

We went to two TT Dealers and looked at several Coachmen Apex 279RLSS. The quality of the TT was just not as good as others of the same size.

Finally, settled on a smaller unit. Recommend you take some road trips and look before you buy.

28rls

Hello, we have the 28RS and love it. It's been almost a year now and still no problems. We traded in a Springdale 266RLS for it, because of the bigger bathroom. It tows real nice and the quality and fit are really nice. Any questions just pm us.

Hello, we have the cougar 28rbs, basically the same trailer we just have bunks. We really do love our trailer, but we did have some issues that were promptly taken care of by our selling dealer. I will point out that the 28rbs/28rls is tongue heavy especially with a full tank of water, but it sure does tow nicely. If you have any particular questions let us know.

We looked at a coachmen fifth wheel before we bought our first keystone and in my opinion the keystone has better quality. Good luck with your decision.
