Pensacola to Tampa trailer sites?

Hi all, We are going to be traveling with our 5th wheel from Pensacola to the Tampa/Dunedin area of Florida this winter (January) and was wondering if anyone has a favorite campground along the route? We will probably stay for two months around Tampa so any help with a good affordable campground would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks and happy camping to all!

We generally run Hwy 98 through the Panhandle to at least Manatee Springs S.P. . Most of the Florida State Park Campgrounds are great or come down south of Tampa to Venice Florida and stay @ Oscar Scherer S.P. State parks are limited to two weeks and you will need reservations. Fort Desoto outside St. Petersburg is a county park on the bay If you can stay on Military Campgrounds you have the airbase between Tampa and St. Pete. Many of the campgrounds either state or private are full or at least hard to get into Jan,Feb, March. Most everything either State, County of private are on the web.Allstays.com is a good website for finding all campgrounds.
The Corps of Engineers has three campgrounds along the
Okechobee between Ft. Meyers and Port St. Lucie also hard to get into in the winter.
I am on the road and as you see from my recommendations we camp in the boonies sometimes I do not have internet access. Let me leave you with this SW Florida is Paradise...woooo hooooooo

Thanks for the info tailpipe! I checked out the allstays.com site and that will be a great help. I am new at all of this and really had no idea how tricky it can be to find decent RV sites in Florida. Most of the inexpensive resorts are already booked and I wonder how many are already booked in advance every year. I don't have a problem moving around at the State Parks every two weeks but might like to do an extended stay through January. I guess the search continues....Thanks again for the help. Later, Jack.

Do you have a specific reason to stay around Tampa? If not, you might consider north central Florida. We have a very nice RV resort near us with a golf course and restaurant. It is located on Orange Lake. There are many other spots in the state.

You need to make a stop at Top Sail. Its a beautiful park with water front.
