Tie down points too small

Has anybody else had an issue with the stock tie down points on a Raptor (or other hauler)? The recessed pocket in the floor isn't large enough to get the tie down hooks in and out easily. I had to cut the hooks on my tie down straps a bit shorter to make them work. I'm not sure why they didn't make them a bit larger. Anybody else have this issue?

My Raptor has great tie downs. Hooks fit in there with no problem. Maybe you have different ones?

Yep, mine are pretty tight as well. Gotta really work at it to get the hooks to fit.

I have had no problem to date with the hooks and tie down strap that I happen to use. Then again have yet to have to tie down anything extremely heavy. I think the straps I have been using were around 400 - 600 lbs. I am sure heavier straps would have a larger hook. Thought in 2012 the floor loops were larger and were screwed into the floor. Think in 2013 and beyond the anchors and now welded to the frame and advertised as 5000 pound capacity. I hope I have these numbers correct.

???

mine work fine however my 20,000 lb straps wont work. just kidding. mine are not recessed they are 4-5 inches in diameter with 2-3 inch d rings if that helps. I am guessing yours have the d ring that is cast with a round hole. my remedy would be a few 3/8 quick links. heres an amazon link for a pic http://www.amazon.com/Apex-Cooper-Ca.../dp/B00FLW97WO
you can take them in /out with a wrench

Think prior to 2013 The tie downs were d rings that were screwed in to the floor and I think that is what you have if I remember correctly looking at earlier models. We do not have a D ring basically a cup in the floor welded to the frame with a simple bar across (dividing the circle in half). REAL Technical Explanation The item you identified would work but may be a tripping hazard.

The quick links won't fit in the pockets....I have 6 inch nylon straps that I use because my metal hooks on the tie down straps won't fit either.

Yup same problem here. Went to tie down our rzr with my Mac tie downs and their was no way. Had to use smaller ratchet straps. I think I am going to try some heavy gauge d-rings if they fit.

Yep, mine are the newer ones that are welded to the top of the frame and flush with the floor. I've tried quick links and they won't even fit. So far I'm stuck with cutting the hooks shorter or using soft straps on that end. Piss-poor design if you ask me.

wow

I didn't know they had gone to that design. the one I referred to was a recessed eyelet that was cast and put into a pocket that is recessed. I have them in a utility trailer. they work well but the eyelet holes are a little small. I put a eye bolt in the back to secure my 2 bikes and I use a quick links to accommodate the 2 strap hooks. and yes I have tripped over it. as well as the on floor d rings and pingle mounts. but I live in the back I learned where they are. heres some links of pics

there are more designs to choose from.

I took this pic from the net, but it's the same as mine. Looks like it works with whatever hook they have there, but normal tie down straps have much longer hooks that don't always fit.

Ones like these most often will not fit:

Same recessed mounting I have, now I have to see if all my "KTM" straps will hook in there!! I sure hope so.

Boy what timing Now we have a lot of pictures !!!

The yellow straps/hooks pictured in a previous post are exactly what I have been using with no problem. My previous picture is that of my actual Raptor garage floor. Can not trip on these in the floor May need to use the recommended link to add bigger hooks but then again may introduce a tripping hazard

that

sucks. I would quick link it I did in the back of mine where I needed a strapping point for our trike n bike. I live in the garage area and I rarely stumble over the tie downs or my wheel chock mounts.
