Collision repair

I was in a minor accident towing the trailer home today. Damage isn't a lot but it did damage the fiberglass in the front drivers corner. Since it will probably take awhile to get it fixed is there anything I can do to protect it from water damage if it rains before I can get it in? Pic included of the damage.

Mike, I wouldn't get too complicated with this fix. I'd get out my roll of good quality duct tape and simply go to town. Make sure the tape seams are tight and the surface is clean.

I agree that is a bit nasty by the looks of it, but gorilla tape should be a good temp repair.

I would go over that hatch and the rest of the area with plastic sheathing and tape it down. Exploding the pic that hatch looks out of alignment and the hatch door looks seperared under the hinge. What's with all the silicone on top of that hinge?

Yes the hatch is out of alignment. The silicon has been there awhile; one of the storage doors seemed to seep in thru there so I had put that on all of them. Hatch is out of alignment, wood damaged, fiberglass damaged, and trim bent. Waiting on an estimate for repair...

Local repair shop can't get me in even for estimate till July. Repair maybe In August... But they did concur with flybouy's suggestion if plastic sheeting and quality duct tape to seal it up. I think we will be using it as planned for our June and July trips then get it fixed in August if possible.

I would also get under it with a flashlight and take a good look at that front rail that connects to the "J" channel. It looks like the screws are pulled out and if driving in the rain could infiltrate to the floor. If it's a dmall gap then maybe some silicone sealent yo close it up.

I want something removable because it will be properly repaired. Just can't get I it in for a bit. I have it all covered up and will keep an eye on it for evidence of water getting past it. Initial insurance estimate is$3400 on the repair but they are missing some parts and I have heard often miss stuff so I expect actual cost to be a bit more. Will know more in July when the repair place gives their estimate.

I know "Phil with Flex Seal" says that's the greatest stuff since sliced bread & I might try it on something some day, but don't think anywhere on my rv is where that would be.

I finally had this repair finished in May almost a year after the accident. We were able to use the camper all summer. Parts issues were some of what made it take so long. The final cost was more than I paid for the camper in 2019 but insurance paid instead of totaling it.
During the summer we did our best to keep it covered with heavy duty plastic and duct tape. We went thru a lot of duct tape during our trip to the Carolinas! In the end it worked well enough.

Duct tape left on for a period of time in the sun will leave a real nasty residue. I would use aluminum tape.

Lol I used what I could readily get... and almost everything that got the tape ended up getting replaced anyway. There is a little residue on the frame... but that's about it.

They gave up on waiting on the decals and found someone local to create them... the one on the front is wrong (not the same as original) but looks good enough to me. They did a good job on the side decals I thought.

Yeah, the repair shop did a good job. I trusted the multiple reviews and a few people that told me they were good... I just wish their communication was better and they actually met a date... but really the most important part is they repaired it well! And most of the "downtime" was during the winter/early spring so we didn't miss much camping!
