Leg leaking hydraulic fluid

My 2020 Keystone Avalanche 278BH has been park for 3 weeks. I went to put some things in it while in storage and the middle driver’s side leveling leg we leaking hydraulic fluid. Does anyone know why that would be?

I had the same problem when I bot my Alpine. One of the legs (back driver's side) leaked at the top of the leg. Was not a bad leak but these things are under pressure and should not be leaking at all. The hoses are all crimped on so you cannot tighten any connections or fittings. Like you my Alpine was under warranty so I took it in to dealer to get fixed. I was told that they do not fix these legs, they replace them. So they replaced the leg and guess what --- the new one leaked also. Took it back and it was replaced as well. Leak stopped. I was happy. That was almost 6 years ago and no problems with any of the level up system.

I would take it back to your dealer and have them replace the leaking leg.

same here, one of the legs was seeping on my 2021 montana the day i took delivery, they ordered a new one and slapped it on, 6 weeks later I havent used my new trailer yet but have put the landing gear up and down several times, it worked fine when seeping, works fine now that its new too. take it in!

Suggest getting them to order it though first, i sent them pics(to my local dealer) and they ordered. they might insist on a drive by...to verify the problem.

I have 3 cylinders leaking on my new Avalanche 382FL. Noticed 1 was leaking upon delivery. All Keystone makes with auto level carry the same cylinders. Just a bad batch from factory I guess.

Not that I have any "factual information this is true", but I wonder if Trailer King is now making O-rings for the "lowest bidder hydraulic systems" ???

They are probably taking the failed tires and making the O-rings with the ground up rubber.

A few weeks ago, I noticed the left rear jack was leaking on our 5er.

Since the warranty is long expired, I searched the internet for a replacement. The price of a new jack was around $500 delivered to my door.

I then thought it could be repaired, so after checking with a couple of hydraulic shops, I found one that told me they could fix it.

In a few days, they called to tell me the jack was ready, and the cost of the repair was less than half the cost of a new one. I like those kind of calls!

Anyway, it now back on the RV, and works fine.

Take care eveyone!

That's good news (saving half the cost)... Now that there's no "rush to fix anything" you've got time to "cultivate the next repair"... At your leisure, find a few tractor service centers and talk to them about what they'd charge to rebuild a hydraulic actuator. Most of the "big, name brand tractor dealers" probably wouldn't be interested, they make enough money off the big time farmers who buy name brand tractors. But the small, out of the way tractor dealerships are run very much the way "grandpa's favorite auto service center was run"... One mechanic, often not busy, always looking for work and willing to help a neighbor.... That's the kind of place that can rebuild any hydraulic actuator (they're all pretty much the same technology) and is happy to get the work and is small enough to keep his reputation for doing every job the right way as his final product.....

I've got a couple around here that are half the price of the JD dealer in Gaylord and can get it in quicker, do it cheaper and the coffee is fresher to boot....

If you can find someone like that, while there's no rush to fix something today, we're leaving in the morning, cultivate that opportunity. It'll pay dividends in the future.....

Oct of 2020. My 2019 Avalanche 375rd had one leaking also. Never got to carry it to get repaired because Hurricane Sally put a tree through the middle of it.

I have rebuilt many hydraulic cylinders over the years. A rebuild kit usually runs around $30.00. Labor is high I guess. Alot of machine shops will rebuild these. Get kits from Motion Industry.

I have a bit more to my story with the jack leak repair.

The piston rod had a deep scratch (which I have no idea how that would happen) that damaged the seal as it moved past. The rod was not repairable.

They offered to machine a new piston to match the existing one, and I agreed.

The machine work is what drove the cost up from just a seal replacement.

Cheers!

I would imagine that could be fixed, but at a cost. The scratched rod could be machined down and then flame sprayed over with a hard coating, or chrome dipped. Most likely not cost effective.

It would be hard to repair the piston rod or interior body of the hydraulic level up leg assy..

O rings and such most hydraulic shops would have or could get...
