Fun with numbers

Took the new TV to the scales after almost filling up the tank (the pump stopped me at $100…who knew?)

Here are the scale numbers with me and kid #2 and how much is left according to the door sticker.

⅞ Tank of Gas
Front: 3420 (330 free)
Rear: 2660 (1340 free)
Total: 6090 (1110 Free)

Based upon these numbers and the Tire sticker in the door, it appears that the 1297 lbs for occupants and cargo does not include a full tank of gas. In other words, Ford considers curb weight to include gas, which I think I’ve read somewhere.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think curb weight is the weight of the vehicle including its standard features and a full tank of fuel. It does not include passengers or cargo or any other optional add-ons such as hitches, etc. All vehicle manufacturers, not just Ford, consider a full fuel tank as part of the curb weight.
Other weights such passengers, cargo, hitches, etc., are used in determining the GVW.

Right. That’s what I was trying to say. With a full tank of gas, the scale showed available weight that matched the door sticker, minus my weight and another 50 lbs or so for the baby and two baby seats.

BTW. Just hang up the nozzel and run your card thru the pump again when it stops at $100 (or some stop at $75) then finish filling up.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if it’d let me, and I didn’t want some fraud alert tripping things up.

I wish I did not know the pump stopped at $100... Did you weigh the trailer too? I am considering taking the RV about 20 miles away to get weighed at a Pilot, but I am nervous as to how "fast" I have to be. Do you actually unhook the RV from the truck? I hear about weighing each axle, etc... I'll search the forum.

I didn’t have the trailer this time. New TV, so I wanted to weigh it “empty.” Maybe next week after a beach outing.

I weigh mine at a waste management place that has a public scale, so there’s no line to speak of. This one is a single platform scale, so I weigh in stages. They have a green light to signal me that the got the weight for each stage: Front axle, both axles, then rear axle, as I pull ahead in stages. When I had my trailer hooked up, it was the same method: front axle, both axles, then truck + trailer, then trailer only. Unhooking is pretty quick, then when I’m done, I just hitch the trailer and pull off and then hook up the WD so I’m not holding anybody up. That was about a five minute process. Truck only was a two minute process.

allentx1, Howdy;

There are all types of bidnesses that utilize scales.
Those at truck stops will be divided into 3 sections
* front alex of tow vehical
* rear axel of tow vehical
* RV
Best to approach the fuel desk to ask how they will signal you they have the weight. Flasing light/horn/ arm waving from the door or window...

Gravel yards have scales as do some moving co's., Where I spent the winter there are alot of produce co's, that just about all have a scale. In your Yellow pages look for scales. In mine, and this in in the middle of nowhere Utah, I have 4 listed and 2 of those maintain scales for others like Norbest turkeys, just up the road... Look around you'll see more than you expected to see....

Happy scalein';

Where’s GCWR listed on the truck? I know what the documentation says, but my door stickers don’t show a GCWR and I was hoping to see it on some label with the VIN.

funny how they don't figure a driver in the weight of the truck, cause weight really matters when the truck is sitting still, right, LOL. i know they can't figure the exact weight of a driver, but still they could take the avarage, on a high end.
