fresh water tank

On my Alpine I notice that I lose about 1/3 fresh water out the over flow/vent line when Im towing. by the time I reach my destination Im at 2/3 tank. Looked under belly and found a 3/4 vent/over flow hose on left side of tank so every turn; water just flows right out until its low enough not to come out. secondly I also noticed that the hose droops down to the under skirt for about 3 feet until it raises back up to the left rear corner about same level as the tank is where it terminates at a vent fitting.. seems to me a very bad design. not only I lose all the extra water, I now get a vacuum in the fresh water tank due to the water standing in the vent hose. seems hard on water pump which is about 20 feet away.. anyone else seen this or has had problems?? thanks. very new to forums.

If you can reach the vent hose where it connects to the tank, maybe you can just shorten the hose so water does not collect in the hose, which will probably stop the water from escaping. We only lose a little water if we have filled the tank to overflow and tow uphill, but it only leaks until the hose is clear, and then only a few cups of water are lost.

The overflow/vent is normally connected to the small screened opening next to the fresh water fill opening, for some reason CR choose to run it underneath. Some have added a valve to the hose, which must be opened when filling or some have pulled the hose up & connected to the appropriate spot.

Depends on how it’s configured. Some newer units don’t have a gravity fill and as such the vent/overflow screen isn’t there. We don’t sell Alpines so I don’t know how it’s set up, but the ones I have worked on with no gravity fill will be vented out the top/side and sticking out of the coroplast. I suspect the overflow on the OP’s tank was not installed correctly.

Just an educated guess based on what I see on a daily basis.
