2002 slide won’t work

New to ownership. Have no mechanic background. I have a 2002 cougar. After camping the last two days they slide won’t come in. When we push the in/out button we can hear it clicking at the battery but it won’t move. We just bought it two weeks ago
It has a brand new batty, purchased a few days ago. We have checked the fuses and replaced them and no luck.i have flipped the breakers as well. I’ve heard of another switch near the battery but I have no idea where it is. All connections to the battery are tight and in place. It is plugged into power but the previous owner said the slide only runs on the battery.
We we’re going to manually slide it in to get home but I can’t find where to do that either. I’ve been googling for two hours now and Just found this site.

You do need a charged battery connected for the slide to work properly. The slide operates on the 12volt, battery supplied, power system. If you are connected to 120volt “house style power” the 12 volt items will still work. They will work because you have a power converter which converts the 120 volt “house or shore power” to 12 volt battery power. However, big ticket items like the slide draw too much power for the converter to run safely and thus it requires a charged battery to power the 12 volt system properly. I hope that made sense. Basically, you have two separate power systems which work together. 12 volt and 120 volt.

Having said that, my guess is your battery is drained. Is that possible? Maybe you have a battery disconnect switch that is keeping the batteries from charging or supplying power?

Are you in a 2002 Cougar or a 2020 Cougar?

Can you describe what kind of power you are connected to?

The breaker by the battery you mentioned is called an auto reset breaker. If it trips, it will automatically start working again once it has cooled down. It looks like this-

Thanks for your reply! We have a 2002 Cougar.
We found that it was a bad relay. We jiggled them and it worked. I guess we need an entire new relay/fuse board.

Great news!

What do you mean by relay board. Where is what you are talking about located?

Better yet, would you post a picture of it so we know exactly what you are referring to.

Are you sure you even have a "relay/fuse board" ???

Typically, there's a "DC mini-breaker" connected to the + battery cable, a "in-line fuse" then the switch and the motor. Each circuit (slide, landing gear, awning, etc) has essentially the same wiring/components, but because of the various floorplans, they are all "piece-mealed into the control board"... There is not (to my knowledge) a separate component board with relays and fuses that you can order. Each component is separate and adaptable to any trailer floorplan/configuration.

This is the piece I’m referring to. Those two things, the black things, next to the fuse. I was told those were relays. Idk really it’s just what I was told. These kinds of things are not my forte. There was apparently a mud dobber nest on top of them that had to be knocked down. These stay under a cover and it had to be taken off. We were told it could have been the nest creating a bad connection or this entire green board needed replaced along with the wire nuts that connect the wires that are Attached to the white piece at the bottom of this pictures that connect this piece to the other set of wires.

It for sure looks like some dirt and maybe moisture got into some of those connections. If you are comfortable with it you could try cleaning the connections with some compressed air and maybe some gentle wire brushing (on metal to metal contacts) if you can get to the connections. You could gently remove the white wiring harness, see if you can clean it up, and put some dielectric grease on the connections to keep the moisture and any obstructions out.

Which part did you wiggle to get the slide to work? That is where I would focus my attention.

Or you could replace it. I’m sure you could find it on Amazon or any RV parts dept should have it.

We wiggled the circled parts and it worked. I am going to call a place tomorrow about them.
I am not comfortable with doing anything big.

This looks like it’s the replacement part if you end up needing it.

Yours says part 14-1130 and this is for part 140-1130. Further research seemed to indicate you could use it for either.

https://www.amazon.com/Power-Gear-14.../dp/B011D4VYQK

Edit- I confirmed here that part number 140-1130 replaced part number 14-1130

I have a 2002 Cougar 278 EFS (5th wheel / rear kitchen) and have no idea where that electronic do-dad is located. Where did you find it (where is it located???)

Mine is a 281. It was right above the battery attached to the front wall.

manually slide

Did you ever find out the location of the manually slide for your 2002 Cougar. I have an electrical issue too and need to get my Slide in. Appreciate any help out there. Thank you, Chris
