2008 Cougar 292RKS Bed Platform

I just purchased a 2008 Cougar 292RKS, and it does not, I think, have the original mattress. The measurements of the platform are L 73 1/4 X W 58 1/2. I do not see any mattresses I google that meets that dimension for a queen mattress (RV).

My question is, should I replace the plywood platform to extend further out from the platform?

There seems to be a couple of inches on each side width wise, and enough room from the foot to extend without being a problem.

The current setup is a 4" solid foam on the bottom with what seems to be a regular mattress fill on top. I have spent two nights in it and getting sore spots on my hip.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.
Have you tried googling the specs on this trailer to see what size queen size mattress this unit came with. There is a full queen and a short queen. once you determine that, look online or visit a bedding store to find the right mattress for yourself. Get rid of the old one asap.

The measurements you quoted are for a "RV SHORT QUEEN bed" Mattress size is 60"x74". There are a number of sources. Here's search results from one Amazon search: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=RV%20shor...node%3D3732961

Yes, I have been to the same page - a couple do say RV, but the ones I like usually are 80 length

The "full size queen mattress" is 60x80. Usually they won't fit on the "RV Queen platform". The end of the mattress tends to "fold under when you sit on it" and it's surprising how often you "sit on the end of the bed". You can "make it fit" but you may be modifying the platform to lengthen it about 5" to "prevent the slides" when putting on socks.
