Weird Frozen 5th wheel

We are out camping for the last time this year. It’s hit 20’s at night, we’ll currently also.

I have a nice heated hose coming in, trailer is at 70 on the Thermostat, heated tanks are on, hot water heater is on. Everything is nice and warm, except the kitchen faucet. It works on cold, but is froze on hot. The bathroom sink/ shower work fine, and kitchen faucet will run cold water no problem.

I assume that the hot water line must run somewhere all the other lines do no, or the cartridge in the faucet is bad. It did this yesterday and eventually warmed up and worked fine.

Any ideas?

Not familiar with your layout but two questions come to mind.

Is the outdoor shower located near the kitchen faucet?

Is the kitchen faucet the "furthest away" from the water heater?

Sorry, Alpine 5th wheel. No outside shower per se, it’s in the water “box” where the water comes in under the trailer with cable tv etc. and kitchen sink is the closest fixture to the water heater.

I will say, this hose made in Klamath Falls Or is awesome. The heated wire is inside the hose instead of on the outside. Bought a plug in thermostat from them as well so it kicks on at 45 and heats.

How did you determine that the line is frozen?

Is the low point drain under, or near, the sink? Last year the exposed hose of my low point drain froze and blocked the hot water line leading to the sink. When it thawed, all was well.

You might want to see if your spigot is clogged at kitchen sink. Also did you have the water heater bypass on?

Yes the low point drain is right below the sink. That makes sense. Thanks!

Makes sense on the low point drain. Try affixing one of the foam outdoor spigot protectors that you can get at WalMart,
Home Depot or Lowes.

They hang down like 18”. I’ll see about shortening them up this spring and getting them insulated more. Thanks!

Wow! They must have received too many many calls asking "where's my low point drains".

If they hang down that much, possibly you could buy a "pool noodle" split it on one side, slide it onto each of the low point drains and then run a round of electrical tape to keep the noodle from falling off the PEX tubing ?????

If you can't find pool noodles this late in the season, I know Lowe's and HD have pipe insulation (costs more than pool noodles) on the end cap in the plumbing department.

Those DO hand down a long way!! I can see how they could freeze and run right back up the water line. Strapping some pipe insulation around them might be just enough to help as John suggested - and easier than cutting them all off. Once done I would keep an eye on them for a while during travel to make sure the added mass didn't increase the wind resistance on them to cause them to "do something".

I’ve seen the pipe insulation. I pulled the plug on camping today and winterized. Single digits (even zero) for nights this week.

We are putting our hike up for sale in Feb. Will be moving into it for a Period of time. We have our eye on a friends property, but needs a total gut. 6 months or so. If not, might be getting a big motorhome to call home for a bit.
