2009 Cougar 318SAB AC replacement

Well after checking the start capacitor and thermostat I have determined that the compressor is shot. I am about to order a new Dometic Brisk Air 2 to replace the old Duo Therm Brisk Air. The big question I have is should I also replace the control box and old analog thermostat at the same time?

I will be upgrading to a 15K Btuh unit from my old 13.5K Btuh unit. My generator is a Kipor 6000Thi and my secondary is a 3500 unit. So I have that covered.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ordered and received new unit from Amazon. No to get that nearly 100lb beast up on the roof. It is going to be a chore.

Got the new Dometic Brisk Air 2 15K Btuh installed along with the new
control box and single zone thermostat. After a small wiring snafu that
was corrected the A/C is blowing cold or should I say frigid air. So nice.
While looking in the converter panel I noticed the 15A fuse for the bedroom
slide was only half in. I do not remember ever pulling this fuse. Anyway, I
place it in correctly and now my bedroom slide works perfectly. Very happy
with how things have turned out. Oh and the A/C is currently running off my
Ryobi 5500(6875W surge) watt generator. Life is good!

Glad that things worked out for you. I'd like to add a 2nd ac in bedroom up front. I have a 2012 Cougar 323 MKS. Do you have a second ac?

Ricky,
No we don't. This new 15K unit is blowing frigid air all the way into the
bedroom. It was 87 the other day and the entire unit was 70. These newer
more efficient units are great upgrades.

I know this is an older thread but wanted to add that I just purchased a Dometic Duo-Therm Brisk II 15K BTU for my ducted single zone A/C system which is currently a 13.5K btu unit. Have a 27' 2002 Cougar 5th wheel. When it is 100F outside, the cabin won't get below 80-82F. Yuch.

I have filled in the voids outside the end ducts and replaced the ducts with some from e-trailer.com that allow 360 swivel AND you can actually close them. This didn't help enough to make things comfy in very hot temps. Running the A/C with the quick cool feature where all the air comes out of the lower unit and not the air ducts helps a tad but not enough. Today, I pulled the trigger on the 15K BTU unit mentioned previously. My mobile RV tech, Les Smith; A-1 Mobile RV Repair of Lakehills TX told me that my current control board is paired with my thermostat and did NOT need to be replaced. He said it would work fine.

I called Dometic and they told me they recommended the single zone digital thermostat they sell to all their customers. The reason? They no longer stock the analog and if it dies, it would have to be replaced with a digital. While it is true that Dometic considers the analog obsolete, it is still readily available from many internet sellers as P/N 3106995.032. Dometic customer service line that confirmed this info is: 800-216-5115. My RV guy is an authorized Dometic installer I believe.

He gave me these tips in the event I wanted to do the install myself:
As far as installing the upper he gave me four tips:
1. first unplug 6 pin connector from below
2. unplug white wire going to upper
3. put the new A/C square over existing hole so the four bolts line up with lower and the new A/C comes with gasket already on bottom
4. make sure the barrier (not sure if this is right term) that separates the in and out airflow and perhaps use some tape to close any leaks.

I think the white wire is the 110V for the A/C. I am not sure about the barrier part but he said it would be obvious once I got up in there. Hope this info helps someone looking for this kind of stuff. I hope the 15K unit gets me chilly in July!

How did you guys get the new air conditioner on the roof? I'm going to be adding a second air conditioner in the near future and trying to figure out the easiest way to get it on the roof without killing myself or damaging the rig.

When we did ours. We tied a rope to the frame for safety. My dad was on the roof with the rope and I slid/pushed it up an A frame ladder (little giant). Once to the top, we lifted it the short gap to the roof. I would recommend a towel or something to protect the trailer a bit where you transfer from ladder to trailer. While it's not extremely heavy, I would recommend 2 able bodies.

Hope this help give some ideas.

Hey!!! I have a 2009 cougar keystone 318sab I was wondering what units and sizes of air conditioners fit this model I think I have a Coleman Mach according to the thermostat 13.5 BTU I haven’t actually climbed up there yet, but I’d like to upgrade to a 15,000 BTU unit with the optional heat strip for some extra heat along with the propane. I’m not good at this electrical stuff so I don’t know if any of this is possible?
