Automated Safety Hitch
I don't know where I've been but this is new to me. Anyone come across this system for goose neck and 5th wheel towing?

Saw this setup at the Port A RV park a couple of weeks ago. Makes the rig about 8 ft longer and even though it is stinger steered, he had a heck of a time getting into the site. He said he loved it because he could pull his 16k trailer with his 2500.
When he finally got the trailer parked, the grassy areas on both sides of the pad looked like a plowed field.

Reserve my seats in the "nay-sayer" section...
Just as there is a belief that HD overload springs will increase GVW, air bags make a payload bigger and LT tires on a half ton will convert that semi-floating axle to a full floating axle with a bigger puck , now we add another "gimmick"....
Now, this device is supposed to make a 3/4 ton tow the same weight fifth wheel as a 1 ton, and we're supposed to ignore the GCWR this time....
Heck, might as well buy a used Mazda B2300, put overloads, air bags, LT tires and drag this behind it with your Cougar Half Ton fifth wheel ???? Then you'll be ready, when DW wants a bigger trailer to just step up to that Alpine 40 footer
Seriously though, the GCWR is going to limit almost all "long, heavy trailers" much faster than this thing can "ignore the GCWR" and make them move forward.

I think I'm going to buy one, if nothing else just to help control my blood pressure!
https://fifthwheelst.com/rv_accident...ch_system.html
It saved his life! Fixable and reusable after a horrific crash! Kept his blood pressure from racing! Jeeze, I'm surprised it didn't make his hair grow back, his teeth whiter, and have him "run faster and "jump higher" than a pir of "P.F. Flyers".
I'll pass.

A few "contributing factors" that I gleaned from that article:
1. Occurred in 2018 using a 2000 F350 with 319,000 miles.
2. Towing with the ASH coupled to a "sizeable fifth wheel".
3. The accident occurred when an 18 wheeler "pushed the trailer" causing the uncontrollability...
4. There is no mention of truck GVW, GCWR, RAWR, trailer weight, length or contributing factors.
While the ASH "might have helped save lives" it might also have "allowed a paperwork increase in tow capacity" that "far exceeded the mechanical capability of the F350"...
This is one of those, just because you can, you should or "if it works on paper, you'll be OK" kind of comparisons....
Real life and "slide rule/computer calculations" don't always provide the real world application successes anticipated... Just ask Boeing about the 737 MAX.....

Can I tow my Alpine with my Hemi Durango? Durango did our light Forest River TT just fine.

Somewhere on here there's a photo of a F350 DRW with a boat on the trailer in/on the truck using this device to tow a big 5er towing an enclosed trailer. Basically using this thing you're able to take all your toys with you.
