Murphy Bed Assist

Has anyone tried installing helper springs or gas struts on their murphy bed? Mine is a little heavy now that I've replaced the mattress with something comfortable.

Does your murphy fold near the head of the bed or does it tilt downward into the cargo area? I was wondering about something to help raise the bed. Ours folds, leaves the cargo area open (pass through).
