Well, it's my turn..... NO Power

2019 356

Well the warranty is on its last day so of course it is going to go TU,

Brought the trailer home a week ago from dealer. Parked it, opened one slide to access the pantry and then closed it. Turned battery disconnect to off and left it.

Went out today and can not get ANY power to trailer. I do not get the blue light when turning battery disconnect, nothing runs and nothing works. Hooked up to shore power, 15A and still nothing.

Any ideas on what could be the issue and where I would find whatever may be wrong?

thanks

bob

I would look at that battery switch. Sounds like it failed

Can you check the switch with a meter? ... I don’t even use my switch at all because I leave it plugged in all the time. If it is the switch you can probably bypass it for a short time til you get the new switch installed. Disconnect the battery’s to shut everything off in the mean time till replacement switch arrives ...this is just a guess but where I would start

That disconnect does not totally disconnect the batteries from the parasitic drains on your rv, using that disconnect in storage will always result in dead batteries, thereby shortening their lifespan.. Disconnecting the negative cable from the battery that goes directly to ground is the only total disconnect.

So, a quick update.

I went out and turned the battery switch on, nothing. I pulled the power cord from the wall, removed the 50A surge protector from the power cord, plugged back into power source and then plugged the power cord in via pigtail. Walked to the front and I had power (?). I am going to order a battery switch to have on hand, clean up all of the battery connections and wire in the battery compartment and see how it goes. I am also in the process of getting bids to install a 50A feed so I can plug into more than just an extension cord. I am also wired for solar charging for my batteries so I guess it is time to bite the bullet and get a small portable panel.

Thanks for the quick responses and suggestions.

This is what I have for a solar panel for now....it fits under the king bed nicely when not in use. They make a 100 amp version as well

Never trust the battery disconnect that comes from factory, you have to rewire it to disconnect it from everything. There is parasitic draw from safety items like propane/ CO detectors etc..

I will have to check plug compatibility. I have the plug for a Zamp panel right now. It's not like the manufacturers got together and said let's make this easy and standardize stuff.

You don’t have to stick with zamp. Just buy a reverse polarity adapter...that’s what I use

Or just switch the wires at the battery two feet away.

That is one way to confuse all future owners ... the plug is such a small cost

That's very much the same "end result" as using black/white (+/-)battery cables rather than red/black (+/-)....

We're still finding people who "don't understand that if the second battery cable is white, black is positive but if the second battery cable is red, black is negative....

It's never a good idea to just "connect something in reverse if something further downstream is mixed up"... That's an excellent way to create an issue for any future maintenance man or any future owner.

If it's worth having, it's worth fixing it correctly.

Connectors for Solar

Those 2 pole connectors are a disaster waiting for cross polarity problems, too easy to miss-connect them if you have wires from different system systems. At best you get a blown fuse, at worst you start burning wires. A better solution is to use 2 pole Anderson connectors along the line, they can not be plugged in wrong as the red side will only mate to the red side.

For the connection at the trailer I use waterproof PowerCon connectors. Mine came from China via slow boat https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...5d07397fRLdgiP, but Amazon and others have them a lot quicker. Just Google NAC3FCA.

At 12 volts any long run will reduce the power significantly unless you use very large gauge wire.
