Rim size

My Raptor came with 15" wheels and I heard about others changing to 16" wheels. Is this better for towing? Are there some mods that need to be done to do this change? I have plenty of room to do this, but is it better?

I thought it was expensive upgrading 5 tires and rims ..... but 7 ..... OUCH! ...... Anyway I went to 16" for the increased E load-rating and to get away from Asian made trailer tires. Steel rims are about $50 ea. and going to a narrower tire does reduce rolling resistance and heat build up which should increase fuel economy and safety. JM2¢ , Hank

I know.... BUT..... lol!! I have the "E" rated now, when I get ready for new tires I thought I would change to the 16"?? If there is an advantage. If not... I will stay with the 15". The newer Raptors come with 16" as I am sure others do too.

I just got back from a trailer supply place (Red Neck Trailer) here in Fresno and they told me that going to a 16" rim is to get that "E" rating, I told them I had "E" rated on my 15" and they said I was good. No advantage to going to a 16".

My 15" rims were only rated to 65psi so to go to E rating I had to replace them. The difference between 15" and 16" rims was pennies and like I said !6" tires were not Chinese made. Glad to hear you have the proper rated tires and rims.

Your wheels/tires must have been an upgrade from the factory if they are LRE. The Keystone specs for your particular model show it being equipped with LRD bias ply tires.

If you did in fact receive LRE 15” wheels/tires you should be good to go with like replacements.

With the 16 inch rims, one has the option to buy LT tires, and stay away from the China tires that may bomb out.

I missed this statement the last time I visited this thread. With the 15" LRE tire the largest load capacity available is 2830# at 80 psi. With the 16" LRE tire the largest load capacity is 3640# at 80 psi.
