What's Best to Tow Outback 312BH?

[QUOTE=Tgribb6;71883]We have a 2013 312BH and love it so far. We started off towing it with a 2008 Toyota Tundra w/ the 5.7L V8 and it pulled it just fine.

I am new to RV'ing but not new to pulling trailers ('07 Dodge 3500 Ram diesel with a 36' flat bed trailer); We have not purchased a tow vehicle or trailer and are considering an Outback 312BH. I am concerned about the length and the fact that it is a bumper hitch. My thoughts were this length trailer would be better suited as a 5th wheel for maneuverability and safety. Is there a 312BH made in 5th wheel form? My concern is maneuvering in close quarters. Also would this be better pulled by a 2500 series diesel truck vs an diesel Excursion or Suburban?
Thanks for all comments.

I have the Sprinter version of that trailer. The difference is mine is 8200lbs dry versus the outback which is quite a bit lighter. I pull mine with an f250 6.7 diesel and have zero issues.
Why not just use the Ram to pull the trailer??

I would think any kind of 3/4 ton, gas or diesel, would do well for you.
I have towed both TT and 5ers. Personally, while I prefer towing a 5er, that is nothing against a TT. With the right hitch set-up, you should be just fine with your Outback.

I have the 312bh and tow with a f350 short bed. No issues at all. I also use the 4 point equalizer hitch.

My Outback is 35' overall . Any of the 3/4 ton trucks will do fine. and I'm pulling it with a F250 gasser with no issues. Any of the 3/4 ton trucks will do fine.

I have looked at numerous trailers that size. I wouldn't feel comfortable with anything less than a 250\2500 series truck. Just too much trailer, the tail would want to wag the dog.

Our Outback 277RL is 35' and 8600 pounds, and pulls fine with our 2005 E350 Van with the 6.0L diesel. We prefer the TT to a fifth wheel because we can put all our surf rods inside the van without taking them apart, and enjoy all the extra passenger room.

Backing up either a TT or a 5er is an acquired skill, and they each handle a little differently than the other, but once you get the hang of it, you can put either one just about anywhere you want it.

We have an outback (35' and 7600 dry) and pull with an 07' Toyota Tundra with Equal-I-zer 4 wdh. No troubles. Does well without any strain.

I pull my TT (36') wiht my diesel Excursion without issues. Get a good WD hitch and you are good to go.

If you go the Surburban / Yukon route, make sure it's a 2500 series. The normal 1/2 tom would be outmached for the weight.
