Raising trailer tongue and truck

When hooking up the Eaz-lift WDH, you hook up the trailer to the truck and then raise both with the jack so you can hook up the proper chain links. I hooked ours up this weekend just to move it a little in the storage yard. It seemed like I had to really raise the truck and trailer up to get to the 5th link on one side. Does that sound odd? It was more than 3" for sure.

That's fine. As long as you can raise it.

Good to know. I was just concerned that something might "go boom" if I raised it "to far".

I raise mine to take nearly all the tension out of the system when putting bars on/off. I sometimes don't even need the pull-up bar to secure the chain :-)

If when hitched, the front of the truck is returned to the unhitched height you are OK and that is normal. If the front end height is not right, then you need to go back and correctly adjust the WD.

Raising the trlr and trk

I was taught to put enough tension on the chains to make a small person grunt. That said, usually 3 links is enough to hold it tight enough to keep the bounce down. Also when tightening, measure once or twice to check the "on level ground" front fender to the ground and the back to the ground, make your adjustments accordingly.

ALTHOUGH, going to AK last spring I hit a swell/frost heave in the road and bent the trailer tongue, bent the alum face cover on the front of the trlr. And bent an axle.

Now I don't have to jack it up so high to hitch it up .
Well there you are.
