leaking black tank

On our last/first trip with our new TT I hit a large piece of truck tire on the highway. Would have avoided it except the truck in front of me hit it first and shiped it into my lane. The truck and trailer seemed to rollover it without a problem, untill we got to the next campground.
The dump valve for the black tank had pulled apart and the metal bracket that supports the valves was bent back about 2 inches. The valve and bracket were no big deal, bend a little here, reassemble a little there. But the pipe where it enters the tank is seperated slightly.Thank GOD I had drained and flushed the tanks before leaving last campground. I made a cheap and dirty(pun intended) repair using some rubber roofing caulk/cement. I doubt this will prove to be a durable fix but it salvaged the last week of our vacation and should prove to be somewhat easy to reverse as that it doesn't seem to be stuck too tenaniously to the pipe/tank.
Any ideas on a more permanent repair? Any thought of submitting an insurance claim?

Thankx in advance for any input.

Let's see a pic of the damage, please. I ask because you have several possible places of damage. One probably means a difficult repair that could include replacing the tank. The other is relatively simple if the damage is only to the piping and not the tank or tank fitting.

Best to see what the problem is before suggesting anything.

Sorry I was not too clear in my original post. The leak is occuring at the place where the ABS drain pipe exits the tank. It looks as if the pipe has a flange that fits inside the tank. It's difficult to get a view of the problem with a camera because every thing is black and the gap/crack/seperation just gets lost. The pipe is fine and did not get damaged, just the spot where it enters the tank. I'll try to get a photo that is servicable. thanx.

I had the exact thing happen to me. I called the tank manufacturer (don't remember who it is off hand) and they recommended using ABS glue over the crack.

I applied quite a bit of the ABS glue and let it dry for about 2 days and then applied again. I've been on 4 or 5 trips since and haven't had any problems.

Google is your friend. Try searching on abs leak tank repair and you will get lots of hits. There are two basic repairs that will do a good job for your crack. One is using epoxy and the other is using ABS cement and a scrap of ABS. Both methods are documented on the net in good detail.

After several GOOGLE sessions I think Plasti-Mend is the way to go. Amazon has a kit for $36.50. I'll be getting it fixed up soon. Hope to get a couple of weekend trips in before the lousey NJ winter sets in.

Thanks for all the advice.
